How To Create A User Album

user album how to ssv pictures share

The user gallery is a great place to share your projects with the rest of us. It keeps all the pictures in one area so you and your friends can see what you've been working on and be inspired.

First, click the User Gallery tab. Then click Upload in the upper right corner.

This will take you to the upload page. This is where you decide where you want to put your picture. You’ll have a few different options. You can Create New Album. This is where your project photos go. You can create several albums so you can organize your project photos. Or you can Upload A Pattern. To upload a pattern, see the Upload A Pattern tutorial where we cover that in more detail. In some cases, you’ll see another option called Select Album. This option is available if you've created an album in the past.

We have not created an album yet. So we’ll click Create New Album. A popup window will appear with several fields for you to fill out. The Album Name is what you want to name your album. You can name it anything you want. The next field is the Album Description. Fill in a quick description of what someone would find in this album. This is handy if you’re organizing your pictures into categories like Christmas, portraits, commissioned work, etc. The Album Category defaults to User Gallery. There isn't anything you can change here. The next area are default sorting options for your album. I’d keep it where it is. All albums are public so this area is greyed out. The next two options is whether you want others to have the ability to comment or rate your projects. Everybody at SSV is really nice and encouraging. But if you don’t want the feedback or it becomes a problem, you can uncheck these boxes. The last option is watermarking images. A watermark is an image overlaid onto the picture, usually a URL, to let people know where the image came from if it is shared. Scroll Saw Village doesn't watermark our images, so it’s greyed out.

Once everything is set up, click Save. Now your album is set up.

Below are some upload options. Click the Choose Files button and browse to the pictures on your computer. You can select more than one at a time if you’re using the Flash upload option. Then click Open. Your pictures will begin uploading immediately.

When they’re done uploading, a Review & Publish button will appear. Click that to add information about your pictures.

Be sure to pick a good title for the picture. Every work of art needs a title. The Tags section are keywords that people might use to search for your picture. In the Description section, add a quick description about your project. Maybe some anecdotal advice, or a little backstory to the project. The Pattern Designer section write in the pattern designer if you know who designed the pattern. This is a great way to give credit where credit is due.

Once you filled out all of the fields, click Finish & Publish.

If you ever want to see your gallery, click your name in the upper right corner and choose “My Gallery

If you want to see someone else’s gallery, click their name to open their profile. On the left side, click Gallery to see their albums.

This is a great feature that allows you to create your own virtual gallery of projects you've completed. As a member, you’re allowed 10 albums, with each album holding up to 100 photos. That’s 1000 photos! As a SSV Supporter, the sky’s the limit. You can have unlimited number of albums with an unlimited number of pictures. Check out the Support SSV tab for more information. Be sure to check out the Sharing Your Pictures tutorial on how to share pictures from your user gallery in forum posts.
