Two Truths & A Lie:

  1. While researching for the bolts to secure the Hegner to the brackets for the Miter saw stand, I ran across a short note in the Hegner Manual that discussed the size of blade to the blade holders. There are three sizes of blade holders for the Hegner; .5mm (blades, #4 and smaller), .7mm ( #4 though #9 ) and 1.0mm ( larger than #9 ). Using too large a holder may result in premature failure at the clamp. .7 mm is the standard size that ships with the Hegner. I use mostly smaller than #4 blades and I had been having issues lately braking more blades than normal. I have ordered new blade holders; two sets of .5mm and one set of 1.0mm. I'll update after I've had a chance to try them out.
  2. I brought my Craftsman saw with me on our winter getaway, leaving my DeWalt at home. I like the way it cuts (very non-aggressive) but hate fighting blade changes. Anyone know of a modification I could make to make it easier? Or maybe a technique I could try? I’m leaving the blade attached at the bottom and feeding through the workpiece from bottom to top. (Guess that’s called “bottom feeder”?) Thanks in advance, Tom
  3. So, got a little shock when I opened up the latest SSW&C. Evidently, Pegas just released what they call an "Overhaul" to the Excalibur (and Clones) scroll saws. I wouldn't call it an overhaul, but it is a complete replacement for the top and bottom clamp mechanism. For those that are very experience with the EX, you know there is some room for improvement here. Seyco has a milder enhancement also. The new Pegas Clamp replacement is supposed to be 40% lighter for less vibration, easier to use, and etc. Here is a peek: Here is a better peek from a Vendor here: https://www.dictum.com/en/tools/woodworking-metalworking/saws/mitre-saws-saw-guides/704769/pegas-saw-blade-holder-complete-set So, to be clear, this would work for EX, clones (Axminster, Carbatec, Pegas, King, and Excelsior) and Seyco. Anyway, I'm excited. The product doesn't show up on the Pegas web site yet, but at least this one vendor has it, and the SSWC ad says it is coming in "January 2018"
