Two Truths & A Lie:

Quote:

  1. March is a big month! Daylight Savings is March 10. Saint Patrick's Day is March 17th. March Madness also starts on March 17th. The first day of spring is March 19th. And lastly, Easter is March 31st! Whew! So instead of picking one to celebrate, we'll open it up to whatever March means to you. Is it green beer? Digging in the garden? Basketball and nachos? Or are they brightly dyed eggs? Post your March scroll saw projects here. It'll be fun to see what you come up with to celebrate March.
  2. Christmas is over and we start a new year. Whenever January rolls around, I often reflect on the previous year. I like to think of the special memories, accomplishments, and time I spend with my hobbies. So this month's challenge, think back to what you created this year and post your favorite scroll saw project. Let us know a little bit about it. Why was it your favorite? Was it a gift for someone? What was it for? I always enjoy the stories behind the project. Can't wait to see your favorite project!
  3. When I was a kid, one of my favorite things was making our Valentine's boxes in school so our classmates could put in Valentine's cards. It was so much fun to go through and see what cards your classmates got you. So for me, Valentine's Day isn't only about romantic love. It's also about showing the people in your life how much you appreciate them. A time to check in with friends, both old and new. Connect with family just to say you're thinking of them. A little special something for the kids or grandkids to say "I love you." Post a project you made for your sweetheart, a good friend, or someone in your family to show how much you care. It's open to interpretation, so get creative. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
  4. This is the easiest scroll saw challenge yet! Post your most recent project. That's it! No theme other than your last project. It'd be fun to see what folks are working on. When you post, tell us why or who you are making it for. It's always nice to hear the story behind a project.
  5. I was looking through our past scroll saw challenges, looking for a new December challenge. I found it strange that even though we push Holiday Ornaments, with our Ornaments For Charity ebook and Personalized Ornament kits, we have never done an actual Ornament scroll saw challenge! So this month, let's show off those ornaments! Post a few pictures of your scrollsaw ornaments. It would be fun to see what you've made. Tell us a little bit about them while you're at it. We'd even love to see them on the tree! Happy Holidays! Let's have some fun!
  6. Spooky season is over, and now we're in the mode of Thanksgiving. I always thought of this time of year as a transition time, where we can slow down from our summer adventures and back-to-school routines. Where we can reflect on friends, family, and all of the things we are thankful for. So this month's scroll saw challenge is about Thanksgiving. Different countries celebrate Thanksgiving (or a form of) at different times of the year. But the sentiment is the same: Counting our blessings and enjoying the company of our loved ones. Post a project that means Thanksgiving to you. Is it a centerpiece for the dinner table where you enjoy a carefully prepared meal for your friends and family? Is it a scenic project or portrait of old farm equipment that is iconic of a bountiful harvest? Maybe they're hand turkeys you made with the kids? It is completely open to interpretation. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
  7. I went to the big box store to pick up a couple of things and I saw this guy with a long salt-and-peppered beard and a bright tie-dye t-shirt. He looked like he stepped straight out of Woodstock. When I got home, I looked up Woodstock. I guess it was August 15-18, 1969. It was meant to be a 3-day music festival, but it certainly turned into a symbol of the era. So, I thought it would be fun to do a scroll saw challenge about peace, love, and everything groooovy. Like the other scroll saw challenges, it is open to interpretation. From hippies to VW vans, peace signs to bubble letters, music icons or just some funky project you made. Have fun with it! I can't wait to see what you come up with!
  8. This month's scroll saw challenge is about Easter! Post your Easter projects here and tell us a bit about it! This is open for interpretation: Toys for the Kids Easter Baskets Candy holders Easter decor Bunnies...bunnies...and more bunnies. Bowls, place settings, napkin rings, centerpieces, etc for Easter Dinner Religious/Faith based projects Good Friday related Or just to celebrate spring! I can't wait to see what you come up with. If anybody is looking for some Easter projects, we have a few in the Project Workshop.
  9. Spring is in the air and our furry little friends are coming out to play. This month's challenge is all about the critters in our lives. Share a project of bunnies, puppies, and anything else that make you saw "awww." Post your animal projects below. When you do, please tell us a little something about it. While we love seeing your handiwork, it's the backstory that makes it special. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
  10. Summer is in full swing! Time for some summertime projects. Post your project that is either used for summertime actives, summer themed, outdoors, or vacations. It's pretty open to interpretation, so have fun with it. When you post, tell us a little bit about the project and why you made it. I always love seeing the stories behind the project.
  11. Last week, I headed back to Montana to visit my family. It has been awhile since I've been home. We had a great time reminiscing about the good ol' days. So I think this month's scroll saw challenge is about nostalgia. Post a project that brings back memories of the good ol' days. This is pretty open to interpretation. Old cars, trains, farm houses, scenic, etc. When you post, let us know what kind of memories it brings back for you. It will be fun to see what people come up with.
  12. This month's challenge is about fun and games. Post your game or puzzle projects here! Have you made a game? Chess, checkers, cribbage, or some other game? How about puzzles? Jigsaw puzzles, free-standing puzzles, mind teaser puzzles? Post those here. I love games and puzzles. I can't wait to see them.
  13. March: Will it be "In Like A Lion and Out Like A Lamb?" Or will it be "In Like a Lamb and Out Like A Lion?" Regardless, this month scroll saw challenge is about big cats. A popular genre in scroll sawing, so it's time to show them off. Or maybe King of the Jungle cats aren't your thing? Post the King of the House instead with kittens and cat projects. That's what the internet is for, right? Cat pictures? Can't wait to see what you come up with.
  14. SuperB0wl Weekend is coming up! So this month's scroll saw challenge is about celebrating sports! Any kind of sport: football, basketball, lacrosse, badminton, curling, competitive pie eating.....whatever. Post your sports related projects. When you post, tell us who you made it for. Are you a player? A fan? The stories behind the project is what makes it special.
  15. This month's scroll saw challenge is about seeing how far we've come in our hobby. Post a picture of your first project, and a picture of your most recent project. This isn't about poking fun at where we began, but rather to celebrate how far we've come. And when you post, let us know how you discovered scroll sawing. It will be fun to see where we all got our start and where we are now.
  16. These are strange times, indeed. Stay-at-home orders have been issued around the world as they try to wrangle this pandemic. I had to get myself and my team to work remotely, which was no easy task. Non-essential offices, stores, and services have shuttered their doors. Now we're at home hunkering down with some time on our hands. Luckily, as scrollers, we have no shortage of projects. So, what have you been doing with your time at home? Post your Lockdown Projects. While we usually ask for scroll saw projects, I'm going to open this to whatever project you have going during your home quarantine. Scroll saw project, home improvement, cooking, exercise....it don't matter. Show off what you're working on. Also, post a nice thing that happened to you this week. I'd like to see some happy news.
  17. Is it summer yet? I can't tell because of the weather. But that doesn't stop me form firing up the grill! This month's challenge is about BBQ season! Post your projects that are related to outdoor cooking and dining! Signs, cutting boards, condiment holders, napkin rings, paper towel holders, grill scrapers, drink holders, or whatever! And while you're at it, tell us some of your favorite things to cook outdoors? Better yet, have a recipe to share? I wanna see them! Lets turn this into an epic BBQ thread. Pass the sauce!
  18. This scroll saw challenge should be an easy one. Share a pic of your scroll sawn gifts this Holiday season! There's nothing more special than a handmade gift. It could be a gift for family, friends, coworkers, or stuff you sell at Holiday craft shows! While we love to see your projects, it's the stories behind the project that makes it special. So tell us a little bit about it. From your saw, to under the tree, I can't wait to see what you made this Holiday season.
  19. This scroll saw challenge is an easy one! Post a Holiday project! Ornaments for your tree, gift for a loved one, or decorations for your house. Whatever! While we love to see your projects, it's the stories behind the project that makes it special. So tell us a little bit about it. I can't wait to see what's on your saw this Holiday season.
  20. Here's a fun scroll saw challenge recommended by @wombatie Everybody was a beginner at some point. We all had to start somewhere, right? So in this scroll saw challenge, post a pic of your first project. If you don't have a pic available, post one of your earliest ones you've done. Share with us your thoughts about your progress and how you've grown in your hobby. Maybe offer a word of encouragement for those new to the hobby. It'll be fun to see where we all started and remember our scroll sawing genesis.
  21. It's starting to feel like summer! So this month's challenge is Summertime Fun! Post a project that screams summertime! What does summer mean to you? Does it mean backyard grilling and picnics? Splashing around at the local swimming hole? Trip to the beach, or some camping in the mountains? Grandkids coming for a visit? Or maybe you're going to hit the road for a nice vacation. Post your summertime scroll saw projects and tell us a little bit about your project and why you made it. I love the stories behind the project.
  22. May is a month for Mom, because she deserves more than just a day. This month's challenge is to make something for Mom. This can be for your mom, wife, or special lady in your life. If none of these apply, how about some May flowers? Post your project below. It'll be fun to see what you come up with.
  23. Thanksgiving was a big event in our family. All the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends would all come together and enjoy a carefully prepared meal together. But as a kid, I never enjoyed the holiday. We always went to my aunt’s house for Thanksgiving Dinner. She had no kids of her own, which means it was boring! But as I get older, I’ve learned to appreciate those days and now have many fond memories. It was an opportunity to take time out of our busy schedule, slow down, and enjoy our friends and family. So when I think of Thanksgiving, I think of family. This month’s scroll saw challenge is around the theme of “Family.” What does it mean to you? Post a pic of a scroll saw project that illustrates your love of family, friends and thanksgiving. When you do, write a little something about it. I really enjoy hearing the backstory behind these projects. Have fun!
  24. Howdy All. I thought it would be fun to start incorporating some Scroll Saw Challenges on SSV. So let's start off with a Halloween challenge! The theme for this challenge is "Halloween." Post your Halloween themed finished project, or a pattern you designed here. The theme is open to interpretation. You can post something spooky, harvest, or fall related project. When you post it, say a little something about it. Maybe a little story related to the project, what inspiration you took, materials or techniques used. It doesn't have to be elaborate. But it's nice to read a little about a project and seeing the picture or pattern. I'll start. I went back to MT recently and my dad got a new DeWalt scroll saw. I've been looking at upgrading mine (an old craftsman 16") and I figured I'd try his out to see how well I like the DeWalt. I picked this pattern from SSWW&C to test it out. It was a fun project. I dabbed craft paint on the surface, leaving the inside cuts raw wood. Then I used antiquing paste wax to distress it a bit. You can find the pattern here: http://scrollsawer.com/2017/08/01/nr-festive-jack-o-lanterns/
  25. School starts in 3 or 4 weeks! Can you believe it!? What happened? Did your summer seem to go quicker than normal? Mine sure did. With school right around the corner, I thought a Back To School challenge would be fun. Make something for your kids or grand kids for school. Perhaps something for their teacher. Or maybe some learning toys for a school or preschool? Have fun with it and get creative. I can't wait to see what y'all come up with.
