Two Truths & A Lie:

  1. i had seen a post about the hawk not having dust collection. i guess i was lucky that the one i bought had a 7/8' hole right under the lower blade holder. but i bet this would work bringing it in from the side as well. made from a few PVC adapters and some 3/4" pipe i came up with this. i put on a cap and drilled 3/8th" holes in it and 4 sides to keep large cuttings out of the hose. it is connected to a used household cyclone vacuum that the belt to the beater bar has been removed. this increased overall suction buy removing unnecessary pull on the motor. this is plugged into my saw's foot switch. i like the cyclone style because 1) you can see when it is getting full and 2) it is only a matter of pulling off the canister to empty. it has worked better than i had hoped. (the photo showing the adapter under the blade holder was taken after cutting a 22 hole portrait without cleaning the deck after)
  2. Found this on Facebook Marketplace. Its a 220 VS for $150. If I were closer I would not be sharing, I would be buying! https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/202168760565092
  3. After examining the machine, it did indeed have the dreaded Fasco motor. Considering all I have learned in previous discussions here and with Bushton, and even though they reduced the price to $375, I have decided to walk away. Too bad, because the machine was in almost pristine condition. I could not see any signs of wear.
  4. On the Accessory arm, there are some holes (above the air line) meant to be used to hold the clamps steady while you tighten the blades. This isn't quite a sophisticated as the Hegner approach, but I think it will work fine. Of course, my saw didn't have the hole drilled in the correct location for their newer clamps Nilus said the existing holes were for prior blade clamps, but that they would add the third hole for the current clamps going forward. I have no warranty (for multiple reasons), so they are not obligated nor did they offer to fix it, which is ok, because I have a tweak that will work for me. So the forward hole that supposed to fit my clamp, per the manual is too low. There is nothing I can do about that without grinding into the arm. The second hole, which was for some other clamp is too high, so I can work with that. That just means I have to find a spacer and glue there to make it fit. So I rolled a piece of metal (A Fat Coin) to a thickness of .066", and glued it above the second hole. If it stays there, it will work fine. Here is how it supposed to work according to the Manual First Hole Intend for this per the diagram above, but too low Second Hole Intended for another Clamp Type, but too High Here is the fix with the metal Spacer SuperGlued into Place
  5. Still early days but quite pleased with how these have turned out. All made from reclaimed pallet wood.
  6. Hi, I just joined your forum. I am new to wood working and starting to collect some powered tools. Next on my list is a scroll saw. I thought I might ask for some insight. Would you recommend a 16" or a 20", any particular brand? I have read some good reviews on the dewalt 788. I have been searching craiglist for the past few weeks just to get an idea of what is out there. This post came up today regarding a rbi hawk 216vs (s/n: 4022). The seller is asking $225 and claims it is in excellent shape. It is this anything worth looking into for my first saw or should I look for other options. If this is worth while, what is a good price point?
