Lower blade clamp problems with small blades

  have a Delta 40-695,  similar to the Dewalt.   I  have  difficulties with the lower blade clamp tightening smaller blades such as 2/0 or nbr-1.   Larger blades  like nbr-5 or 7   will  clamp  just fine  without  any issues.  I  have  tried  adjusting the set screw...  but  those  dang  smaller  blades will just  not  clamp.

 

My go to blade is the FD UR nbr-5   all the time.... But  I  have the need to use  a smaller  blade   and  can only get it to clamp like 1 out of 50 tries

 

Any  help  will be appreciated!!

A lot of times i have the same problems with my dw788.I have never spent alot of time trying to figure it out .Spirals want to spin out everythime because of the way they are made .I have to hold it in the holder as i tighten  with spare fingers i don't have ,lol.I'd love to know the exact reason they do that as it's a pain.I don't see to good or bend good anymore but if you can put a light on the subject to see just whats happening and let us old guys know what you find ,Thanks sonny,lol

I had the same problem with my Desalt 788 I ended up tacking the clamp screw out and coating it with Thread anti siege and It has worked Od. The anti siege cost about $4 and it is enough to last  lifetimes.

Also try clamping up on a doubled piece of paper ,then look at the impressions left on the paper and you will probably be able to see the problem !

As Ike said, use anti sieze, medium grade, you want to be able to get it out someday.

I would take both the clamp and butt screws out and check that the ends are flat.

Be sure the butt screw is screwed in to where it is flat to the clamp arm.
