I too am new to this forum - I'm located in Marietta, GA (just northwest of Atlanta). I served 21 years in the USAF, then worked 24 years at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics on the F-22 stealth fighter program. I will hopefully fully retire in another year or so and devote my free time just being grandpa and making more sawdust.

I started scrolling about 5 years ago because of my grandson. One day, I went out to get a wooden toy for my grandson, but couldn't find one!  When I finally did, it was made overseas and I didn't know what it was finished with, so I decided to make it myself. It started with a car - then a truck -  a puzzle - then a scooter, well you know the rest of the story. Now, besides the toys and puzzles, I make trivets, bowls, boxes, signs, word art and custom portraits. I started with a Porter Cable scroll saw, however, now use an Excalibur EX21.

I am sure I can learn a lot from all of the seasoned and experienced scrollers on this forum and look forward to getting to know you.

Here are a couple of my latest projects...

Just another ols sawman!  Happily --come aboard!  The boat sways some but still floats!   Fun bunch-- not all sane; but, what fun would that be.

Ask for patterns/ideas or just about anything!

Make a "nest" to work form that fits you!  Make things you want to make and LIKE!

Do NOT care what anyone else at all thinks;if you like it make it!

Please the person in the mirror and have fun!

Ideas are always welcome as we "borrow/modify/ work from each other's  triumphs and learn from our own and others screw-ups!"

We always lkike pictures!  A.K. like sawdust PICTURES!

I absolutely :D   ;)  love the cat! ;):)

Thanks ...the cat was from a snapshot emailed to me from a woman who said they had the cat for 15 years and it had recently passed away. She said it was like their child. They were devastated over the loss and asked if I could do a rendition of Alex in wood that wouldn't ever fade away.  I made a pattern from the snapshot blew it up to an 8 x 10 and cut it on my EX21 primarily with a FDUR#3 blade. When it was presented, they cried, so I think I did Alex justice.

Hi Bob, welcome to the Village.  That is some very nice cutting there.  I particularly like the box, was it cut from a pattern?  If so, could you tell me where you got it from?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob - I believe it was a SSWC pattern a while back - I'd have to go look for it...but I modified the size to fit a particular antique wine bottle my friend had, and I modified the plain top cover by adding the person's name and the date to commemorate a certain occasion.

The Porter Cable was a very nice, and economical starter saw; I actually still have it, but the quality cannot compare to the Excalibur. I absolutely love my EX21.

Welcome to the Village Bob .........Glad to have you aboard !.........Very sweet scrolling there, and really love the cars and carrier!

Thank you.  The car carrier and cars were actually made for my grandson. It's one of his toys he plays with when he comes for a visit.  There's usually always some kind of surprise at Grandpas house when he comes over.  :)

Hi Bob, welcome to the Village.  I'm Marg from Australia.  Pull up a chair and make yourself at home.

Marg

Thank you Marg.  I traveled the world when I was in the military, and got very close to going 'down under', but unfortunately never made it there. It is still on my 'bucket list' of things to do though.

Really glad you have joined us. I think the best we can do for you is just remind you of what you forgot and you do the same for us.

Welcome aboard. Glad you joined us. Hope you decide to log on in a regular manner. You work it very nice and you have done yourself well in only 5 years. I too made one of those wine boxes. It was a fun project for me too. Take a look at our pattern selection, all of them are free for you to download and cut. I hope to see your log on numbers grow quickly because that must mean you like us here. We are a friendly bunch too
