What would you all think a fair price for it would be? I live in east central Indiana. I have a EX21 but thinking you can always use two or more of everything LOL. heppnerguy Posted April 30, 2016 Report Share Posted April 30, 2016 I own a Hawk 220 vs. I got mine at an estate sale and it was a steal. I will not tell you what i paid for mine because that is never going to happen again. Most of the used Hawks that I see on craigslist or other sites run from $300 to $700. These are pretty high end machines and seem to be very dependable. Mine is probably older than the one you are looking at because it takes an allen wrench to tighten and release the blades. I do not like that part about my saw. It looks like this one has a thumb screw although I can not really tell for sure. I believe these saws sell new for about $1400, although I have not priced one for a long time. I would pay $300- $400, if I was in the market for one. They are very smooth and they also have a longer stroke than any other machine I know of. I hope this might help you some. Lucky2 Posted April 30, 2016 Report Share Posted April 30, 2016 Watch yourself, you don't want to get into a bidding war. Set your price before you leave home, and then don't go above it. Personally, I wouldn't put a lot of value into the spare blades without seeing them up close. Depending upon how old they are, they may have started rusting which will make them easier to break. If you use the rule that used machine values are about 1/2 of new I wouldn't go much over $600, depending on how bad I wanted it. In 2008, I bought a new 20" Hegner Polymax and a few months later a friend, from an on line forum, told me of another for sale, on Craig's list, near me. I bought the second saw for $600 as a back up. It is a, like new, 25" Hegner, made in 1986. I have, on occasion, had need for a larger saw than that new 20" Hegner and this second saw fills that need. I then found an old 15" Jet scroll saw on Craig's list and got it for $15. I adapted this old (1988) Jet with Hegner clamps so all my saws work the same. I now have three saws. I have one set up at the required angle for doing my inlays (2.2°) and the other for straight cuts with the 25" saw in reserve. Life is good! Charley Problem is, this saw isn't anywhere the current model, and even when Hawk went out of business the first time, this would have been their economy version. The current line of Hawks are closer to the prior G4 model, and the clamping mechansims is worlds better than the old style. CharleyL Posted May 2, 2016 Report Share Posted May 2, 2016 That was a great deal, at any age. I haven't seen any sell that low, in good condition, like that one looks to be. Now, can it be upgraded to be close to the new model? Bushton makes a lot of parts available for them, so maybe you can buy upgrades for it and end up with a new / old saw, but then as a back up, maybe you don't really need to do anything except clean and oil it. I don't own one of their scroll saws and I only tried out one at a show many years ago, but I do own an RBI Router Shop. Bushton wants crazy prices for them now and hasn't improved the design much, if any, so I think this is why you don't see many of them around. They don't do well with big routers mounted in them. The router mount and slide is not sturdy enough for them or their power. It could be a great router table if they improved and ruggedized the design of it and priced it closer to other router tables. If you find and buy a Router Shop cheap they are very handy for smaller lighter work using a 1 hp router, but don't sell your other router table or try to put a 3 hp router in the Router Shop. Even my 2 1/2 hp DeWalt was too much for it. To me, it's a great idea, but still at a prototype design level. They need a really sharp mechanical engineer to take the original idea and make it right. Most people see the pile as junk or too little to do anything with. But not I and neither would any of you. My biggest problem used to be hubby. He would roll his eyes but help me bring it home.
