Bird houses are not easy yet

Kevin, the bird houses are easy to cut, you just need to practice making them. The ones you posted here are only half done, you have to cut the other face to give them the proper shape. I like the other two pieces, what will you be using for a finish on them?

I need to know what size to cut the wood down so i can finish the other sides. This has been very slow cutting for me ,i'm not sure why.I'm going to try some very aggressive blade i haven't used in ages and see if that speeds things up.I want dearly to make some of these.I've lots of finishes to try lots are brand new .Ill post pictures of my stash i've been hoarding years now .I finally have a place to be able to get to them and use them.Practice practice .

Kevin, what size do you cut your blanks at? When you get one side cut, do you place it back into the void that was made from cutting it out? I do, and I always slide a small piece of veneer into the cut left from the blade. Plus, I tape the house into place, this holds the cutting in place while cutting the other side out. I find that if I don't do these two things, my ornaments don't turn out right. They seem to be a bit lopsided, or, a bit overcut in places leaving saw marks. It only takes a few seconds to do what I do to make these, and I'm more satisfied with the finished project. These birdhouses don't have to be made from hardwood, they can be made from softwood also. I suggest that you start out with softwood, then when you get used to making them use hardwood. I'm not to sure that you will like cutting these, they take time, you have to cut slower then usual. I'm sure that you can succeed at making them, just take your time doing so.

My very first Miniature Birdhouses were Diana Thompsons found in CWWC May 2011.  She has wonderful step by step instructions in that article.

Wish i could pull that book out of my stored books .But then i'd have a bigger mess than before .Plus it's under the table 25' long and no idea which box it could be in.If only i had a help mate with a big stick, lol I am a member of cwwc, maybe there's a site where i can look thru back issues?

Kevin, I don't think there's a site to view anything put out by CWWC, there's no CWWC site anywhere. When they stopped publishing the mag, they closed their internet site down. It wasn't much of a loss, they didn't promote or keep the site up to date when they were in print. You might be able to find video on You-Tube, of people making them.

Kevin your on the right track measure your pattern and cut the blank to suit the rest will be waste anyway. Make a clamp to hold them two pieces of wood with a nut and bolt each side so you don't cut you fingers off. Like this.... happy scrolling. God Bless. Roly

Thanks ,i could reverse my coin cutting jig and use that, now where is it that's the problem from moving.
