Do Drop In

A fellow asked me go make him a sign for his gate entitled

Do Drop In.This is what I put together.

It is 3/4 inch pine stained with dark walnut.

Then given 3 coats of spar varnish.

The letters I use just paint.I do not put spar on

the white letters as they will turn yellow.

The letters and horses are raised by tilting the saw table to the left.Cut Counterclockwise.

I usually tilt the table around 7 degrees, but because of so many letters here

I only went 5 degrees. The centers in the letters O and D, I cut clockwise which will recess that

part back. These are fun to make and the raised letters set it off nicely.

It's hard to see the raised effect from the photo but that is a very nice sign.  I bet it looks even better in real life where you can see the raised effect.

Rob

Thank you Rob..Because there is so many letters,I had to reduce the

angle to about 4 or 5 degrees. This makes it raise just about an eighth of an inch.

You did a real nice job on that sign and protected it well. I made a small sign for my shop door years back used treated wood and only paint but mine did not last to long

Thanks Randy, I have had pretty good luck with the signs lasting.

I have always made them from pine, stained and then the spar varnish.

Maybe a combination of all three.Never got any complaints yet.

I might just do that is it free board. great sign.  Roly

Roly,if you give it a go..remember to get the letters to raise

always cut Counterclockwise.to get them to inset, cut clockwise.

Play with the angle to get the height you want.

Here is one I did with just the 4 house numbers.

You can see the letters are raised higher as I used about 7 degrees

to make the cuts.

I don't know Gordie but are both pieces of wood 3/4" or can one be thinner than another? You did a nice job here!
