some times a gift pays off

Last summer a long time friend of mine retired from that Marine Corp as a full bird Colonel. I made an intarsia plaque of the Marine Corp insignia. It was congratulatory gift. Yesterday, I received a phone call from him requesting to purchase 2 more of them for friends of his that will be retiring this summer also. I told him they were a little on the spendy side and suggested that he might be interested in a scrolled plaque instead  but when i told him the cost of the intarsia plaque, he replied. "perfect". So I now have a $200 request.
That will easily take care of my next blade order and an other supplies that I may need for the next 2 months.. I love this hobby.

you're right, dick! In more ways than one. I've had more return work by throwing in a pair of coasters, or a Christmas ornament. Last year at Christmas, I done a  cross for some folks I used to haul for when I was trucking. He asked me how many times it took me to get their cross right. I told him one time, Sir. There is no room for mistakes when it comes to customer work. He looked at me, his eyes as big as the lenses in his glasses, & his next question was how does an ol' truckdriver get into this, & perfect it? I looked at him, & quietly said lots & lots of practice, & a semi load of customized firewood. He grinned, & threw in an extra $20 over my asking price.

Sunday, he calls me & wants to know if I was back in the shop yet because he had a project he didn't want anybody but me to do. I told him to bring it by the shop & we'll have a look see. Turned out its four projects. Sometimes ya just have to spend a little time with your customers. It does pay off.

Making good friends never hurts!

gifts always pays off for a scroller. I give out oven pulls to any one who buys from me and last year I woman which I gave to came back to look because she has an Oven pull. She spent $15 a good investment of scrap plywood/

IKE

I give my heart away to much,I'm not close to rich or live good but I'm thankful for what i get.

I've given over 800 very custom made names when i first started scrolling To try to make a good first impression to get more handyman work when the recession hit in 2004.It didn't work. Each letter took 45 minutes to paint and cut and clear coat,Only one lady out of over 800 gave me work and it was my biggest job in 30 years of being a handyman. To redo 2 homes inside out.She showed up Fridays like clock work and payed cash .All from a free name i made her.

I hope you honor us with pictures. It always feels good when our work is appreciated.

I am happy to post my work in progress. My wife had cataract surgery today and a follow up tomorrow so I will probably be out of my shop until Friday.  but here is how far I have gotten so far.. a few more pieces to cut and shape and then it should go together fairly quickly
