  1. Thanks and quite few. I did not count them but I know I change them often.
  2. Thanks! Not so sure about winning. I see all my mistakes over everything. Nothing that a causal person looking would notice as I am quite sure you know all about that. As makers/crafters we see every little tiny thing that did not come out perfect they way we wanted it to. That includes the finish on the frame how well those 45 corners came out.
  3. Thanks! Solid 1/4" cherry no ply used. I bought it from my local Klingspor's store. I was worried about the grain breaking and I was worried about warping of the wood since the pattern was going to be completely one one side and I knew it would take me a while to cut since I have this annoying thing called a job to pay for this hobby. So I covered both sides of the wood to keep it from drying more from one side than the other, That worked like a charm. The worry about breaking on the grain did not materialize. Maybe supper lucky?
  4. Well not much to say other then I finished it. All that is left is to drop it off for judging next weekend at the NC State Fair. Frame: Yellowheart, finished with General FInishes Get Satin Urethane and a couple of coats of wax. Frame Dimensions: 15 6/8" x 18 1/8" Lion: Cherry Pattern: Charles Dearing (https://www.bearwood.com/Stunning-Lion-Portrait.html)
  5. I would have to say they are kaput at this point. Only one issue issued this year. That to me is closed for business. They are supposed to issue 4 a year. Here we are middle of September and nothing since February. The site has been changed so that the annual subscription link is gone and all they are selling are old issues. That was a pretty expensive issue if you paid for the year that is for sure.
  6. Great thought about colors not showing well. I did use color once before and earlier today I was looking at it and that is what is off about that one. The color in the shadow is just very weak if it can be seen at all!
  7. Welcome I hail from the Triangle area of NC also am originally from N. Been here for the past 20 years!
  8. Thanks for all he great compliments! I promise to post again once the frame is completed. Probably two to three weeks before the frame is done and completely assembled. Plenty of time I have a 2 week cushion.
  9. I haven't been out in the shop much lately as I was having to do a bunch of house fixer ups after getting my house redone with vinyl siding. Suddenly everything around your house looks old and needs to be updated. But I needed to do something for the NC State Fair this October so I cut this out. I still need to make the frame but the cuts are done on this Charles Dearing pattern. The color in the back is not what it will be. Still deciding if I'll use black as usual or something else. This was cut from a 1/4" thick piece of cherry. It is 15 1/2" x 13 1/4" I will be building the frame from some yellowheart I have. Pattern is available here: https://www.bearwood.com/Stunning-Lion-Portrait.html
  10. Thank you and I actually have those two in my pattern collection and on my list of things to cut! It seems we all have more patterns then we can cut and always acquiring more.
  11. Well I am happy to say The Bully was awarded the Blue Ribbon at The NC State Fair. Winning is always a weird thing with me. I feel bad for everyone else. I know lots of work go into each and every entry and everyone wants to take home the blue ribbon. This is a Mike Williams pattern available at https://mikesscrollsawpatterns.com/products/the-bully-14x11 I could not get too close this year and they had it as far away this year as it could be and on the top shelf so I have included another picture of the cutting just so that you could have a better view of it. It has over 1,000 cuts i n it!
  12. That sure does go with the wood!
  13. What timing I have completed 6 of these. They are from Sue Mey @ www.scrollsawartist.com. Only something like 18 more to go.
