  1. This is what Iv'e been doing for some of the people in a local car club,I tried using the spiral blades but that didn't work I cant cut a smooth line with them.and they rip splinters off along the edges so I drill a # 66 hole and then widen it so I can use a bigger blade and sometimes I just run the wider blade backwards to widen it a little more but its still very time consuming doing it that way,it would be nice if I could get a thicker blade and just cut one line to begin with, the double cuts don't look as good as just one wide cut to me,I don't know if a #5 would do the job or not but I can try it and see..thanx for the input all.
  2. Hi all..I have a maybe dumb question seems like I'm doing quite a few car designs lately is there any such thing as a blade that's maybe .035 wide and 30 or so thick fine tooth? normally I use a 2/0 double skip to cut the lines and it will but then they're not wide enough to really see so I've been using a # 66 drill and then using the 2/0 making it wider so I can use a bigger blade to widen the lines,I tried using a radial blade..no way it will make you seasick looking at that, then I tried gluing 2 of the 2/0's together and it held for about a inch is there any such thing as a thicker blade ?I looked on the net but no good..or do any of you have a system for cutting wider lines? thanks
  3. :) Hi all..heres some more things I made for my granddaughter for Christmas last year I had a little more time to do this than I did for the other,th e tile and grass is on a piece of 3/8 plywood, the grill is made from a 5 inch big truck exaust pipe..I tried a tin can but but it would tear it up cutting it and it was really too thin to weld, the grill base is wood so are the chips and logs under it,the planters are empty fruit jars from walmart and so are the trees, the table and the chairs are 1/4 inch key stock welded with paneling for the bottoms the table top is plexiglass,I made some chip bags and other types of trash to go in the garbage can which I got at the dollar tree,my wife made the flower arrangement with the bugs and bird,I even got a piece of bamboo for the tiki lamp, this stays at my house in( her room ) and when they bring their dolls here this is what everyone wants to play with, all of this could be wood if you have a little girl that likes the 18 inch dolls.
  4. ;) Hi all I downloaded the videos from here that Travis did and I put them on a cd so I could set my laptop next to my big pc and watched them as I went thru the making pics to cut and it worked perfect for me...a lot of the stuff in gimp I'll never use,and his videos go right to the point... thanx Travis
  5. I'm not much on tv people but it looks really good.
  6. :D :D that's a great one..wow!
  7. :) Hi all thanx for the comments,I'm thinking of retiring soon maybe and I thought I might try my hand at making some of the doll stuff although everybody that comes here and see's it is more interested in the accessories like the tv,laptop, books, remote, cleenexbox, boombox's and the little things, the furniture is not as elaborate as whats on the net but it not as costly either..the guy that used to sell it at the flea market is not there anymore and he always sold his stuff for more than I would ask for mine so I might still try it and see?what I made her for Christmas is what everyone wants but I didn't post it on here because its mostly metal and I didn't know if it would upset anyone.
  8. :D You sure enough captured john wayne with that cut out...Great!
  9. :D :D :D Nice design and scrolling!!!
  10. Hi Micheals here in Jacksonville has the Baltic birch 12x24 sheets for 3.99 each with a coupon its less than that, made by revell,I saw it while I was in there and decided to try it and its as good as what I was paying 6.99 a sheet for at woodcrafters and a whole lot closer to me,I use it all the time for pictures and such.they had other sizes also but I already have some of that.
  11. hi all,I see no one has made any comments as to where my doll furniture looks like junk or not..I can stand critisisum although I can't spell it,in fact it motivates me to do better..their used to be a older guy at the flee market that made that furniture for the 18 inch dolls and he always sold every bit of it but someone said he passed away and I havn't seen any more there..just a thought for the sellers ?its real costly to buy it online and its not the same as seeing it person and a lot of people are impulse buyers.
  12. Hi all again..this is something that I made for my granddaughters birthday last year and it was all cut with a scrollsaw,if any of you have girls you most likely know what American girl dolls are, these are the keepers when it comes to dolls..we bought her the black haired one that she wanted and by the way they cost over 100.00 $ so before we gave it to her I measured it and decided to make her some stuff to go with it,even the accessories is costly, its all wood except for the flower pot,I cut it put it together, paint and upholstered it with the square lamp shade, then found some pic's on the net..sized them to the piece and glued them on...of all the things I've made in my yard or house this is gotten the most attention Iv'e ever got,we have a empty bedroom in our house that has a lot of her things in it so when she comes here which is really often we can play..yes I admit it I will play with dolls or anything else she has me doing, one exception! I will not wear a tutu when she does ballet..hahaa..I never get to hold the black haired one just the blond one its not an American girl, maybe someday?she thinks I know and can do anything, one of her friends that comes sometimes has one too and she said to my granddaughter that she had some things that her parents had bought her for her doll,my granddaughters response.(.thats nice and its really pretty but my poppa made all this stuff just for me).As you can see in the picture even with the other things she got..she was speechless when she saw the doll stuff.
  13. Hi..I take a small patch that I'll cut from an old sheet or pillow case, you can use an old tshirt also but it will hold more stain than the other and more will run out and apply it in small amounts, stain is not like paint its more like colored water and it will travel thru most wood very quick, you can wrap a patch around the eraser end of a pencil and tape it to hold it on and apply small amouts that way or use a qtip real sparingly to finish the places where the wood joins, keep in mind that if the stain travels over to the next section that the different color stain will not cover it up because its already soaked into that side and dried.apply your first coat and let it dry around 30 minutes or so then if you want it darker do it again, the next coats won't soak in like the first use it sparingly, don't let any puddles stand and dry after a few minutes wipe them off,you can use paper towels for this just take your time and pay attention.I use minwax oil base in the small cans and I never have any problems.if you have a piece of scrap wood left from what ever your working on test it on that and you'll see how fast it travels thru new wood,I mostly use birch plywood and it goes thru it real quick,if you ck my post Whada think (which I miss spelled)you'll see how I did it with the dashund in 2 tone, hope this helps!
  14. Hi all...well I did it,again, this is a pattern from Christina Ellenburg that I cut out but then after looking at it I decided to do it up some other way,I know that the norm is black and white or stain but birch plywood don't have much grain to show so I went with painting it,besides I already have a bunch already in just wood so I got out my airbrush which hasn't been used in years and went to painting but it starting messing up just as I was finishing the blue, sit around too long I guess so I wound up using a brush,I can blend the edges better with the air brush than with a paint brush but I like the way it came out...my house is beginning to look like a museum, the wife claimed this one so....
