jbrowning Posted September 4, 2016 Report Posted September 4, 2016 (edited) Here is a little cut out of a track here in Colorado the I photograph motorcycle racing at. It is called "Pueblo Motorsports Park". Some of the racers have asked me over the season if I could cut out a diagram of the track. So this is my attempt and I added the "PMP" just to fill in that big open space. This measures roughly 14" wide x 7"-8" tall, cut out of 3/4" left over plywood and this is my first successful attempt with cutting out letters. I am hoping to get another 4-6 cut out tonight, then tomorrow I need to do one called High Plains Raceway. Thanks for taking time to look at it. jbrowning Posted September 5, 2016 Author Report Posted September 5, 2016 Thank you everyone, yes Kevin there are some severe hairpin turns on this track. I posted this picture on the MRA facebook page and have 4 sold already. Now I just need to figure out how to finish them. I have come to the conclusion that cutting these things are the fun part. Staining/painting is the hard part. Jim Quote
Rob Posted September 5, 2016 Report Posted September 5, 2016 That's a really cool idea Jim. It looks like it will be popular too. I would try dunking it in 50/50 Boiled Linseed Oil and mineral spirits. Submerge the piece for a few minutes and hang to dry. Once dry you can leave as is or apply wax or a spray finish like Rustoleum semi-gloss. Rob Quote
meflick Posted September 5, 2016 Report Posted September 5, 2016 Very nice. I am sure all the racers will love it. My husband would agree with you on the finishing work. He likes the building process, but the finishing part not so much. Thanks for sharing. Quote
jbrowning Posted September 5, 2016 Author Report Posted September 5, 2016 Thanks everyone, I cut out a total of 9 tracks. Now to sand them and stain or paint them before next weekend. Because 4 days of camping and then 3 days at the race track. That is what I do for my vacation. Jim Quote
meflick Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Hey vacation anyway you want - as long as you take those vacations. Sounds like a lot of memories are getting made that way. Just keep reminding yourself of the "payoff" of a vacation once the "work" is done in finishing them. Quote
Jim McDonald Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Good design and good cutting. Like others, I feel that will sell well. Just don't underprice them to begin. Quote
