I have been asked to cut a dog picture for a Christmas present.  I am not a pattern designer but have tried my best using Gimp and Travis' excellent tutorials.  Could I please ask for our experienced pattern designers to review my effort and suggest any improvements?  I am reasonably happy with what I have achieved but there is a lot of black in the body of the dog.

Here is the original photograph

I really think you did a great job on the pattern. I would not be ashamed to use it. dave

Thanks Dave.  Travis' videos are a great help, I will have to keep practising.

That was a tough photo to work with, i think you did  a nice job, you're just starting out with the programs.  I like the pattern you made, the only problem i see, that would make any other pattern better, is the line of the muzzle.  Not knowing what steps you took to get to the final result, its hard to tell you where you could have done something different.  You say that you didn't like so much black, then go back and try again, keeping in mind the things you'd like to change.

I took a shot as well.  Mine came out a little different from the others, sorta.  That shows you what is possible.  All good patterns.  I'm sure there are many ppl that would be happy to cut yours.

Thanks for your help and comments everyone.  The cutting was for my neighbour who decided on my pattern.  He probably felt obliged to chose mine but anyway here it is:

I don't normally cut portraits but I have some spiral blades which I have yet to try so I will probably try the other patterns at some point.

Thanks again for your help,

Rob
