That's looking great Rolf.  Yes, trying our hand at the other "side" of any type of hobby like this gives you a new perspective and appreciation for those who do it regularly.  However, looks like you are getting a handle on it quickly.  I look forward to seeing the final piece of art.  I am sure your Church all appreciate the donation and it will find a good home.  Good luck on your new skill development and look forward to seeing patterns from you down the road.

This is my first design from my own photo taken from a feeder in the back yard.

It will be a donation to my Church Harvest fair auction.  I still have shaping and branches with leaves etc.

I now respect the designers more than ever,  He is about 4 in tall.

finches are my favorite,Your is well deserving to be auctioned of to the highest bidder

Thanks for the nice comments. We put up a Finch feeder with small slots and filled it with a nyger mix a couple of years ago. It has had constant activity since. It also draws the Chickadee's and smaller woodpeckers.

Our other feeders get the Cardinals, Blue jays Tufted titmouse and many more.

Something about working on a project that includes your own pattern is really satisfying - and in your case - the bird is from your own yard! - can't get much more original that that!!  Pretty neat.  Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Good job all the way around. Your work looks great a your pattern is tremendous. I need to venture out and try some pattern making. I just don't seem to have the creative mind needed for that task

I have not had much time in the shop but I did manage to cut the rest of the pieces. Now I just have complete the shaping, put the leaves in the sun (so they turn green) and decide on a backer.

Dick you never know until you try. After 11 years of scrolling I know what appeals to me so I play until I like it. I started with a picture from my yard, the hardest part for me is not going nuts with the detail.

My moto that has taken me though 35 years of employment in the high energy physics world is " I don't know that I cant, therefore I can"

Going to be a beautiful piece Rolf when you get it completed.  Tell me more about putting the leaves out in the sun to turn green.  What wood are they?  I look forward to seeing more of the project. Thanks again for showing and sharing as you go.

The iron wood (Lignum Vitae) is what I use that turns green in the sun, I think it is the oils in the wood.  You can see the difference in this picture. Sun exposure on the left.

Melanie I thought I had responded to your ? The wood is LignumVitae (iron wood)

I think it is the oils in the wood that react, probably to the UV in sunshine.

You can see the difference in the image I posted.
