Foxfold Posted January 10, 2019 Report Posted January 10, 2019 I've watched several tutorials on compound cutting and love to see how everyone does it. However, this video seems eminently sensible to me and I'm going to save this and then try it when I feel more confident. Just wondered how many of you that cut 'Chess' pieces use this method and is it as 'simple' as it looks ? JimErn 1 Quote
Rockytime Posted January 10, 2019 Report Posted January 10, 2019 That is interesting. I'm afraid that is way above my pay grade even if I knew how to play chess. I am a master at tic tac do if playing with a first grader. meflick and Foxfold 2 Quote
dgman Posted January 11, 2019 Report Posted January 11, 2019 Brenda, I have to admit I did not watch the entire video but I do load my wood blanks like this when I’m cutting the mini Birdhouse ornaments. It does save time and effort. However, if the piece I’m cutting like these chess pieces that have a flat bottom, I will mount the pattern so the bottom of the pattern is mounted against a flat edge so it doesn’t need sanding to flatten the bottom. Bill WIlson Posted January 11, 2019 Report Posted January 11, 2019 I skimmed the video and I would say that it is as simple as it looks. Leaving the bottom cut until last is a good idea. I use a homemade clamp to hold everything together. The way he cuts those chess pieces, the clamp isn't really necessary. Only thing I would do differently is I would probably use my miter saw to make that bottom cut. That way I know it's square, straight and smooth. meflick and Foxfold 1 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 I have started cutting this (2 years ago), wish I had seen this first. Maybe I will get back to the set and finish it up!! Quote
