kmmcrafts Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 I've been messing with this for a couple days now trying to make a pattern for myself..When I found a coloring page of one and did a crappy pattern only to find that it was the wrong year of car.. almost the same but different lights etc.. Anyway.. anyone able to make the photo into a workable pattern for me.. I can do the clock and text part if I can just get a design of the car.. doesn't need to be fancy.. I'll post what I had been working on to demonstrate what I'm trying to come up with. frankorona, lawson56 and Tomanydogs 3 Quote

kmmcrafts Posted January 15, 2019 Author Report Posted January 15, 2019 Well, I’ve been really busy the last few days helping my brother at the Sawmill and stuff so I hadn’t had a chance to scroll much. Brother was having problems with the engine on his skid steer but got things rolling for him. Anyway wanted to have these done by now. Went out after dinner and got this far so thought I’d show. I decided to cut out the pattern that I pieced together too just for fun. I hope to finish them up with the bases and drilled for the clocks in the next day or so. Now my van is broke so need to repair that before the cold snap and snow is to arrive on late Friday or Saturday. Anyway thank you very much @JimErn for the awesome pattern. Sorry if the photo is bad, had poor lighting and my flash keeps going off even though I think I turned it off. Next on my list is to learn how to use my phone camera correctly ChelCass, Tomanydogs, frankorona and 1 other 4 Quote
JimErn Posted January 15, 2019 Report Posted January 15, 2019 Really nice cutting Kevin That is interesting, it seems you do the cutting and then drill the clock hole, I would have thought you would drill the click hole first. In my mind it would seem easier to clamp a blank piece for drilling Quote
kmmcrafts Posted January 15, 2019 Author Report Posted January 15, 2019 Well sometimes you have to put the cart in front of the horse? LOL... Yeah I do either way.. however I do usually drill first.. as it is a little easier.. done a few that I had to incert the cutting back into the blank to help clamp it better.. I absolutely hate setting up my drill press so many times I put it off until the end.. Going to buy that dremel knock off and the plunge router.. so I can leave the drill press et up for the clocks.. Scrappile Posted January 15, 2019 Report Posted January 15, 2019 Ya, nothing harder than changing bits in a drill press.... But seriously I know what you mean, it is setting and re-setting the depth stop on my Jet drill press I hate. Mine has the two little nut with an annoying washer between them that you have to screw up and down to set the depth stop. I hate the set up. Lots of times I will use a couple different sizes of bits when drilling holes in fret work and it is very annoying. The good thing is the chuck will close all the way so I can put the real tiny bits in it. Then there is changing the blade on a band saw!!! I really hate that. I do all kinds of things just to not have to change the blade on it. Remind me again why I love wood work. meflick and kmmcrafts 2 Quote

I have a depth thing on mine similar too.. but what I figured out for me... is I just set the table height rather than to fool with the stop.. For drilling the clocks.. I have a special sized board that I hang on my drill press stand.. I put the forestner bit in.. crank down my drill press until it bottoms out with the special piece setting on the table I raise the table up until the point of the forestner bit touches and then I'm good to go with the same depth every time... I do the same thing with all my drill bits too.. Works much better and faster than the stupid lock thing that came with the drill press.. Scrappile and JimErn 2 Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted January 16, 2019 Report Posted January 16, 2019 I always drill my clocks out as the last thing done before sanding. In case the clock does not come out right or some other problem I do not waste the time of drilling it. The Delta drill presses are very easy to set depth guide so I change often because not all clocks wind up exactly the same thickness wood. I try to do in batches when drilling though. Everyone has a method to their madness. kmmcrafts 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted January 19, 2019 Author Report Posted January 19, 2019 Thought I'd post the finished up clock pattern in case anyone else wants to cut it.. ChelCass and JimErn 2 Quote
