Foxfold Posted January 31, 2019 Report Posted January 31, 2019 (edited) I haven't used my little machine this year but the weather too cold for me to go to my saw. So tried something 'intricate' whilst cooking dinner. Now I know I need lots more practice before I can say 'look what I can do'' but I'm reasonably pleased with it. It's not something I've tried before. Edited February 2, 2019 by Foxfold meflick, amazingkevin, Scrolling Steve and 5 others 7 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted January 31, 2019 Report Posted January 31, 2019 Looking good. Makes me want to drag out my burner and dust it off. I'm not even sure they still make tips for it. Foxfold 1 Quote
Tomanydogs Posted February 1, 2019 Report Posted February 1, 2019 Very pretty. Well done Brenda. You’re getting good at wood burning. Foxfold 1 Quote
Scrollcrazy Posted February 1, 2019 Report Posted February 1, 2019 Beautiful Brenda! I love flourishes like this. Foxfold 1 Quote
RabidAlien Posted February 1, 2019 Report Posted February 1, 2019 I'd go ahead and say "look what I can do!" I'm no woodburning expert, but that looks awesome! Foxfold 1 Quote
don watson Posted February 2, 2019 Report Posted February 2, 2019 Well done Brenda. Are you going to add some paint ?? Don W Foxfold 1 Quote

I've got some watercolour pencils. However !!! Have never attempted to 'paint', ever, so I'm a little apprehensive. I'll go onto the Internet and see if I can find some instruction that can talk me through it. Not sure it's possible to teach an old biddy to paint very well, but as my grandson said ''it's just like colouring in Grandma'' !!!! don watson 1 Quote
don watson Posted February 2, 2019 Report Posted February 2, 2019 Your Grandson has hit the nail on the head there. I use Acrylic paint from 'The Works' (local and cheap). The act of burning creates an edge that divides the drawing into 'paint by numbers' pieces. It is easy to fill in the spaces without bleed, just check you have connected lines. I have attached pics of a chessboard I made and you can see the board as it was burnt and the board after painting. I can't remember who the designer is but I remember getting it from a book I have. Foxfold Posted February 2, 2019 Author Report Posted February 2, 2019 Oh wow, what a difference it makes. I have some acrylic paints (not sure what colours) do you think they are better that my watercolour pencils for this sort of thing ? Thanks for showing me, as I'm already thinking if my 'dragon' needs some colour don watson 1 Quote
don watson Posted February 2, 2019 Report Posted February 2, 2019 I have not used pencils, I went straight in with the acrylic paint from The Works Quote

I painted it !!! Have put it alongside my first picture at the top of this thread to see the comparison. Mmm, personally I'm not sure ..... don watson Posted February 3, 2019 Report Posted February 3, 2019 I think the paint 'lifts' it. No matter it looks good both ways. Quote

I have found thst I am probably often my own worse critic, as most of us are. I have also found that I often need to walk away from projects, and come back and look at them a bit later, and I often find that I like it better over time like that. Foxfold 1 Quote
Rockytime Posted February 3, 2019 Report Posted February 3, 2019 Yep, the paint makes it in my opinion. Foxfold 1 Quote
