preprius Posted December 15, 2020 Report Posted December 15, 2020 I'm new to making projects with scroll saws. I thought about what a laser can not do. So I came up with making holes in thick branches. A love "U" concept should be easy. This took many hours (8) . Fast speed caused some smoke so I slowed down the speed. I used olsons reverse skip tooth #7RG (PGT). The wood was from apple tree. The heart should have come up higher on both sides. Then the "U" could have been narrower sides. Both of these would make the U easier to see. My self lesson is never to do this again. Why did it take so long? jollyred and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote
John B Posted December 15, 2020 Report Posted December 15, 2020 Apple is a pretty hard timber I believe and it looks like you have just about maxed out the thickness of material that your saw can handle. I like your idea though. OCtoolguy and Dan 2 Quote
new2woodwrk Posted December 15, 2020 Report Posted December 15, 2020 Agreed - my thought is very hard wood I've stayed away from most hard woods for the time being simply because of the time sink involved and I don't really have time these days Nice piece though and original OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Dan Posted December 15, 2020 Report Posted December 15, 2020 Yes, it's a hard wood. I've made many compound cuttings from apple. I love the wood. I'd use softer woods if I wanted to sell and make a profit. You project is pretty unique. Keep those creative juices flowing. John B and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
