Xray Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 I like to combine scrolling and CNC when I can. This was a Steve Good scroll saw pattern, but it was easily vectorized and cut on CNC. First pic shows it being cut on the table, second off the table and cleaned up a bit, 3rd with a coat of reflective aluminum paint. Could have cleaned it up better, but this was more or less a proof of concept, and it turned out pretty well. Is about 12x12", 1/4 birch ,,,, And the only obvious mistake was not leaving bridges for the center parts of the 6 & 9. I used a very small end mill to cut, at 60% feed rate - Took about 10 minutes to cut. Will probably stick some hands and clock works in it whenever I run into them. I have no idea why it cut the 2 small holes in the face, must be some artifacts in the file that I wasn't aware of. Quote
Travis Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 That's pretty slick. Looks like a lot of fun to play with. Quote
Xray Posted August 11, 2011 Author Report Posted August 11, 2011 I like em both, can't have enough tools. It is easy to see the advantages of CNC in certain situations, though there will always be something to say for making things yourself. Quote
