Frank Pellow Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 For the seventh year in a row, I plan to send out wooden greeting cards in December of 2022. In 2021 I made 45 such cads Here are photos of the cards from previous years: I attempt to make the cards with a lot of variety. Dan's wreath pattern included in the 'Ornament for Charity' file in 2021 has inspired me to make something very different for 2022; Each card will consist of these parts: Which, when assembled will look like this: I changed two of the words from Dan's pattern, that is: SPIRIT was changed to LOVE REJOICE was changed to REASON As always, I cut the "card" parts from Baltic Birch plywood. I coloured the parts by soaking them in 'Forrest Green' aniline dye thinned to 1/3 strength. I found that by applying a little bit of cello tape to the back of each joint, one get a fairly robust wreath. John B, danny, Dak0ta52 and 2 others 5 Quote
Frank Pellow Posted January 2, 2022 Author Report Posted January 2, 2022 (edited) I presented this "card" to Margaret along with her birthday gifts yesterday. She really liked to wreath and the concept, but she thought that my use of small white areas to write in names was hokey. This morning, I modified the wreath by adding another piece and that piece contains a ribbon and two bells. The new piece was not dyed and can be used to write in names. Also, we agree that the addition of this piece enhances the wreath. Edited January 2, 2022 by Frank Pellow John B, Roberta Moreton, meflick and 1 other 4 Quote
Jim McDonald Posted January 2, 2022 Report Posted January 2, 2022 Great idea. And good turn on the personalized area. Frank Pellow 1 Quote
meflick Posted January 3, 2022 Report Posted January 3, 2022 I agree with Margaret I like the addition of the bells and bow for personalization. I’m sure your recipients will love them as they do your prior ones and your list will continue to grow. Frank Pellow 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted January 4, 2022 Report Posted January 4, 2022 This looks great. Perfect idea to add the bells & ribbon. I will be putting a "task" in my calendar to do this for next year! Frank Pellow 1 Quote
Frank Pellow Posted January 24, 2022 Author Report Posted January 24, 2022 I’ve now made four more wreath puzzles working towards my objective of 45. I’m cutting them out of 6mm thick Baltic Birch plywood and am able to stack-cut two at a time. I tried stack-cutting three, but was not comfortable doing so. I modified the, already twice modified, pattern to add two tabs to the Bells&Ribbon piece in order to better secure that piece to the rest of the puzzle: I’ve been dipping the puzzle pieces one at a time into the dye: Doing so is a little messy but it works well. I’m surprised at just how effective the dye is and at how so little is required to do the job. With my end goal of 45 puzzles, each pair of puzzles cut slightly different than every other pair, I figure that it is prudent to place a unique “brand” on the back of the pieces. These metal letter punches do a fine job of that: meflick 1 Quote

I was just asking if he was willing to share the modified pattern. The original pattern is in the Ornament's for Charity 2021 book in the pattern section. Quote
don in brooklin on Posted July 20, 2022 Report Posted July 20, 2022 Barb I assume Frank is away at his camp on Pellow Island as I emailed him awhile ago and haven't heard back. I even offered to buy lunch. I have reworked the pattern in the Ornaments for Charity book from Dan. I don't know what size Franks is, so you will have to resize. There a couple of issue too with the bells that I did not see so please correct as you cut. I have attached the PDF and svg so if you want to edit it will open in Inkscape and you can resize etc, Frank changed the words from he original so if you want something else let me know. wreath 1.pdf wreath 1.svg barb.j.enders 1 Quote

I just wasn't sure he had access to technology there! THANK YOU so much for doing this. I very much appreciate it. What issues did you see with the bells? Thanks to your tutelage, I think I might be able to figure out how to change the words if I want. Barb Quote
