Rolf Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 Thanks all I am flattered by your confidence in me. I have been in touch with planeur on the SSWWC. Wooden clocks are scrolling projects that do require a bit more patience than most. I have built three very different clocks. One was pendulum weight driven, one spring driven and one that is battery powered. They all required precise cutting and some mechanical aptitude. Unfortunately the amount of space that is relegated to an article is never enough for all of the details building a clock requires. If you get the planes directly from the designer you will hopefully get those details.. One thing that I was not prepared for when I agreed to do the projects was that I would own them forever. I do enjoy helping people with their clock projects. I love it when they send me pictures and videos of the working clocks. The two end clocks are the most popular, to my knowledge no one has ever tackled the flying pendulum clock. The first two are Brian Law designs (an amazing designer) the third required a bit of redesign by me to make it a sensible build. meflick and planeur 1 1 Quote
meflick Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 (edited) Those are Wonderful looking pieces Rolf. The intricacies, precision of cutting. patience and the mechanical aptitude required is why I will probably never attempt one. While I do have a hubby who could handle most the skills needed, so far he has not shown any real interest in scrolling. While he does different types of woodworking as time permits, scrolling is not one. Time is however still a premium for him since he must presently work to pay the bills. Still a few years before he hits retirement. Glad he. Let me retire though. make sure you find someone too take over ownership down the road as those articles will be around forever in the archives and thus folks will be looking for you forever. with the magazines website, they need to learn they can put all that “extra” detail needed on the website. Rolf Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 (edited) Melanie, thanks for the kind comments! "make sure you find someone too take over ownership down the road as those articles will be around forever in the archives and thus folks will be looking for you forever." Do you know something I don't LOL Actually I was thinking about that the other day. I sell a hardware kit for the wall clock for those people that don't have the resources to make the metal parts. I have sold well over 100 of them since the article first came out. I don't make any money on them just cover material and a bit of my time. But It allows people to build them.
