GIMP Question

I am currently working through The Base Pattern video & am confused on a detail. In the very beginning when he loads the project & goes to the Layers menu he has 2 layers. 1 is the Pasted Layer that shows the pictures & 2 is the Background that looks blank. I do not get these same layers. I get 1 Floating Selection (Pasted Layer) that looks blank & 2 Background that looks like the picture. In addition, I am not able to click on the Background layer at all. I have redone the steps several times & even went back & watched the Creating a Workspace video a 2nd time & still get the same results.

 

What am I missing?!?!

Not sure what's going on. Try this, though. Select your Floating Selection, then click the new layer button. This will make your Floating Selection into a regular layer. Then, click the eyeball on the top layer and see if anything turns off. If there isn't anything there, you can delete that layer. Do that with the rest of the layers until you have the layers you want. The backgound layer layer might be locked, so you won't be able to do anything to that layer. But you can duplicate it if needed and work off that layer.
