Wondering when we will start to feel the effects on our wallets on lumber prices due to the fires.   I don't mean to disrespect anyone or make light of what is happening.  I'm sure many people have lost property and lives and lumber prices isn't our biggest concern.

I'm about 30-miles east of Fayetteville/Fort Bragg, NC, and there is a haze in the air with a faint scent of wood smoke. I do fill sorry for the losses I'm sure many have experienced and unfortunately as wood hobbyist, we will feel the effects of these losses down the road.

I kinda remember reading a while back that it takes 17 years to feel the effects??  Due to the replanting and growth of the new trees.  I'm sure that we will see the prices raise much much quicker than that!

I was looking at the fire map today and it appears that most of the fires are on the West side of Canada. It wouldn't take too much for a wind shift to drive the smoke due south to the Pacific Coast region. It could be nasty down here.

Hard to say. Most of the fires are in the sparcely populated northern reaches of Canada, and I'm not sure just how much logging is allowed and how much actually gets done up there. We do get a lot of smoke every summer from Canadian fires, but it usually doesn't get bad until late July-August, so it's pretty unusu al to have it this early.
