Jim McDonald Posted June 23, 2023 Report Posted June 23, 2023 Trying to get a headstart on ornaments. When I actually started listing all I needed for family, I startled myself and then I signed up for a show in October, so the stack cutting has begun. This is 24 of the 36 I have gotten cut so far. The first six prototypes are in various stages of completion, but far enough along I could see it would work. These are 3" tall and will have the hats, hat bands and "carrot" noses handpainted. The eyes, mouth and buttons will be tiny shards of coal harvested less than 100 yards from where my dad grew up. The assembly will be then glued to a round ornament backer. jollyred, ChelCass, JackJones and 4 others 7 Quote
Joe W. Posted June 25, 2023 Report Posted June 25, 2023 Yes, in no time we'll go from complaining about the heat to complaining about the cold. Nice that you are getting a head start on them. Quote
Jim McDonald Posted June 26, 2023 Author Report Posted June 26, 2023 Little update: These are not glued up yet, but I'm having a blast making and painting these. Lots of trees, slightly less gingerbread men, and even fewer snowflakes, but a solid start on building stock. Dave Monk, danny, JackJones and 1 other 4 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted June 26, 2023 Report Posted June 26, 2023 I normally cut ornaments all year long but not necessarily "production" cutting until May or June.. I think I'm behind this year as I haven't even touched a scroll saw in 6 weeks or more.. Normally making clocks etc. too but just haven't had much shop time this year with helping two of my kids buy their first homes ( one is two hours away ) and helping them update and repair things and moving them etc. Then my brother in law has had some health problems so I've been elected to take car of his home / yard etc. while he has been away and now just found that he will be out of commision for about three more months.. Business is really going to suffer this time off but also happy I'm able to be there for everyone to help them.. Clock insert sales has kept the business page views etc running since I haven't been doing any social media content etc.. Looks like we are hiring a lawn service for his yard starting next week so hopefully this will free up some time and get me back in the shop again at least part time working in there. Quote
Mark SW Posted August 20, 2023 Report Posted August 20, 2023 Jim, Looking good. What kind of paint are you using, and will you put a clear finish on afterwards? Quote

For the green and white, just using rattle can leftovers. Most everything else will be Unicorn Spit. I love the pigmentation, ease of mixing and water cleanup. Since these will be ornaments for short term interior use, no top coat planned. Mark SW 1 Quote
