Hi everyone, I decided to have a go at making a pattern, I thought I was doing well but then things started to go wrong and it now looks like a hairy pig, can someone please help to make it look more the dog its supposed to be, it should be a west island terrier and I could really use some help, the more I do to it the worse it gets, I've posted my effort and the original photo, where did I go wrong?can any of you talented scrollers do anything with it, thanks.

Doc here's my Pattern done in Photoshop I think the only advice I can give you is clean up all the little bits in the pattern to reduce the amount of cuts.

and look out for the floaters that will fall out in the white bits when it's cut as you want them to stay in as part of the pattern and in this case less is more.

Even with my pattern there a lot to cut and it can be reduced to your likeness by removing cuts.

So keep at it and never give up.

As you know, I don't know anything about pattern making but looking at your pattern, if I was going to give you  my opinion and you sort of asked for input so I am going out on a limb and giving you mine......   your pattern certainly outshines anything I am capable of, but I think you might consider cutting away the areas of the nose and eyes and more on the lower lip. I say this because they are the dominating features of this dogs face and they do not seem to be in the pattern. Just how I see it, for what ever that is worth, Now I am going to sit back and see what real pattern makers have to say and I will use their input as a lesson for me.

Roly posted his pattern advice as I was posting my remarks. It looks like Roly saw it sort of like I did. small changes can make all the difference in the world. You were right there, and I think that Roly  probably has helped both of us and probably a lot of other people too. Thanks for the lesson, Roly..  I love the willingness of people here to step up and get things done for others.

I think my problem is that I get frustrated when things don't go the way I want them to and make a mess trying too hard to put it right, I thank you all for the help and tips and I promise to practice, and a big thank you to Roly and Joleet, without guys like you the world would be a poorer place, thank you.

It never quits amazing me how the same pattern with little differences all come out looking like the beginning image but with small changes and each is so perfect in it's own way. Everyone  has a little different eye and it shows one that everyone has something to help everyone else but with just a little slant.
