welp, the same corporation that made the cadillac also made the chevette and vega. they are probably getting into the homeowner/hobbiest market to up their revenue. other big name tool companies do the same thing. why shouldnt they? are they dissolving there high quality line of tools?

if i was cuttin balsawood id get hoursandhoursandhours of use from a blade. switch that to purpleheart and i get about 20 minutes MAYBE. blade life has a few factors. i can cut quite long with a #5ur fd in 3/4". but that blade in a 6 high stack of 1/8" bb ply doesnt last too long.

depends on what it is. christmas ornaments get BLO/ms. things that hang on a wall get laquer in a satin sheen. yhings that get stuff set on it get poly. things that go outside get either exterior latex paint or water based varnish. and occasionally i use a blo/ms/poly combo and wipe it on.

ya might want to wander over to their lumber section and check out the prices on their thinstock hardwoods. i found that, after shipping, the prices are just as good as where i purchase online. be careful,tho, lookin at the mahogany. imo, its a wood called meranti. apparently some menards stock walnut and cherry, but here we have oak,maple,hickory,aspen, and birch with some oak and maple unwrapped, s3s,varying lengths and widths, and very good prices. i also believe their other lumbers' quality is much better than the two other bb stores.

weird thing is ive sent both of these pics to a few friends who like seein my work. both without flipping, and they showed rightside up. weird, but thanks again, phantom scroller, for flippin it. off to the shop to finish up adrill press table, do a glue up for one more leg for and end table, flatten a piece of walnut thats going to be the table top........oh....prolly get distracted and start another project. seems i have at least 5 going at the same time all the time.

took em on my,tablet. i even flipped one of themmupside down on my tablet to see if that changed things. it didnt.

boy i sure can complicate choosing who to get my wood from online! i was in menards yesterday stocking up on lumber for various shop projects( drill press table, drum sander build, and a few others) and had my nephew with me who's getting interested in woodworking. we took a walk down to their hardwood lumbers, which i hadnt looked at before as ive seen the prices and selection. at hd and lowes. they had both 1/4 and 1/2" oak, maple, hickory, and what the call mahogany, but i think thats a mahogany grown in the southern US. i was actually quite impressed with their prices on it. they also had free standing, planed to 3/4" s2s oak, maple,and birch. not the stuff thats all wrapped up purdy and s4s. my nephew wanted to try workin with some oak. lookin at the lil price scale they had there and a lil calculating on nephews phone showed me the oak was 3.80 a bf. the maple was a little higher at 4.05 a bf. and with rough sawn 4/4 oak about 4-4.50 a bf around here and maple about the same, this is a prety good deal for me. online i order from ocooch. i have never had a problem and have always gotten high quality plywood and hardwoods.

"Will I still have this same problem if I spent the money and got a more expensive scroll saw?" welp, first id change the phrase to higher quality scroll saw. dont get me wrong. i have harbor freight tools in my shop and am quite happy with the ones i have.however, the scrollsaw isnt one of hf's gems. will you have the problem getting a better quality ss? it would depend on the brand.i would encourage you, if you are looking to upgrade, to research ss reviews online. thetes reviews on this forum along with others http://www.scrollsaws.com http://www.sheilalandrydesigns.com/articles/scroll-saw-selection http://lumberjocks.com/reviews/category/36 and i think steve good has reviews,too. dont let this discourage ya! i started with a craftsman, got hooked after i got the hang of it, then the saw started falling apart, which led to an upgrade to a 788, which made scrolling a LOT more enjoyable

an olsen rt 2/0 is .022" wide. a 1/32 bit is .03125". a number 73 bit is .024 and a 74 is .0225. personally i look at the blade size and then go to my drill bit chart to determine which bit to use. now if someone could make them small drill bits so i dont lose them...... oops...heres the chart i use http://www.gearhob.com/eng/design/drill_eng.htm

when i run into that what i do it put the entrance hole on a radius, or if a straight vein in the middle of the line, then feather out the spot where the entrance hole is. basically widening the vein just a bit where the entrance hole is and blend it in. if that makes sense

i had a pattern printed on the wrong side of the paper once.

smallest i have are 1URgonna order up some 1/0 this week ooohh, ive made some highly figured kindling in my time. but thanks for the compliment,kevin. i wish i had your energy!!! best tip i could give on something like this is slow the blade speed way down to help control the cut.

i believe there is a way to add a finish without darkening it. im sure i read it somewhere. ill do some digging and see what i find
