Sorry Gonzo, but not having it here right in front of me, it's hard to tell the problem. I've built 5 different wooden gear clocks and after many hours, got 3 of them to work. The other 2 run for a couple of minutes, then stop. Just gotta keep adjusting, and playing with them.

Got the parts for my saw and back in business. This project is getting tougher and tougher with the parts getting smaller and smaller. Second guessing myself now with using oak. I'm having some of them fall apart as I cut them because of the open, coarse grain. Should have used a denser, tighter grain wood. Maybe cherry or hard maple. Oh well, I'll keep gluing them back together and keep plugging along.

Definitely will have to shut it down now for a few days. Broke a small spring in the blade clamp on my Delta P20. I've had to replace this twice before and because this saw is discontinued, it's been tough finding parts. Got lucky this time. Found a supplier who says they have 7 left in stock, so I ordered 3. $1.35 each, but $8.00 to ship. Better than the alternative.

Thanks Dick. The Eifel tower that I built was from Wildwood Designs. Pedro has a more detailed one on his website. I'll probably build that one someday too.

Thanks Marg. The middle one is the Amiens clock from Wildwood Designs, but I don't think the plans are available anymore. At least I can't find them. This is the 3rd one that I built. The first 2 were full size (about 36") and made of oak and walnut. Sold one, auctioned the other one off to help a local family with some medical bills. The one in the picture is made of mahogany, walnut, jatoba and purple heart. 2/3 scale at about 24". I'm rambling.......

You guys are making it hard for me to put this project aside for a few months. Thanks again. Getting to the point where I'm going to need a lot of thin material. The plans call for 1/16", and since I reduced them to 67%, you can see where I'm going with this. Thought about using oak veneer but that's too thin. I have a piece of 1/2" MDF 13" wide that extends from the infeed to the outfeed tables on my planner and have been able to plane things down to 1/16", but never tried less than that. I'll have to see how that works. Now wishing I had a thickness drum sander. Ken

Thanks Steve, but you'll have to stick around for a while to see the finished product. With spring around the corner, my plan is to put it aside until next fall. Maybe work on it on a rainy Saturday here and there. Thinking I'll be lucky if I have it done next year this time.

Hi everyone. About 3 months ago, I purchased the Milan Cathedral plans from Pedro. http://www.finescrollsaw.com/milan-cathedral.htm These plans are the most accurate and precise that I've ever seen for a project like this. I've built 20 - 25 of the fretwork clocks available from Wildwood Designs, but none are on the scale of this one. And speaking of scale, I've reduced these down to 2/3rds, so finished it'll measure roughly 24" x 24" x 36" long. Down from 36" x 36" x 54". I'm posting a few pictures showing the progress, and will continue for anyone interested.

Thanks for all of the comments. I've enjoyed every minute working on these, but have no idea how many. During the fall and winter, I get home from work and this is what I do. A couple hours here and there. As much of a challenge as they already are, I like to reduce the size down to a more manageable 24" or so. I've actually built about 20 of these. Sold a couple, but gave most away. You'll never get rich doing this. For anyone interested, I'll post a few pictures in the 'Works in Progress' forum showing the progress on the Milan Cathedral shortly. Thanks again, Ken

Hello everyone. I'm new here but have been scrolling for quite a while. Thought I'd show a picture of a few things I've done. These are all out of exotic woods and scaled down to 1/2, 2/3 or 3/4 size.

New to this website, but have been scrolling for years. Saw the thread about the dome clock and am sure you're having a great time building it. I built it myself a few years ago, but at 50% scale. Used padauk and walnut, but over time, the padauk darkened quite a bit.
