Scrappile Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 I have tried on several Charles Dearing pattern to import them to Inkscape so I can change them from black and white to a black outline and gray filler. These are GIF files, large. I got to "path" and click on "trace bitmap", the next little screen comes up and I click "ok", nothing happens, no copy made nada. I figure maybe already a bitmap image, I don't know, so I go click on the filler color I want and it will not change. I have tried resizing the picture first thinking they are too big but it makes no difference. Any suggestions?? Quote
FranMike Harley Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 Hi Paul.. Are you sure nothing is happening ? Because after you hit OK, it makes a duplicate OVER the image so it appears that nothing happened.. After you do that, try "dragging" the image to see if the copy of it moves.. Quote
Scrappile Posted March 4, 2016 Author Report Posted March 4, 2016 I understand that, I've watched Travis' video about five times. There is no copy produced. That is why I thought maybe they were already bitmap files. I've even copied on in Inkscape and tried changing the copy, no joy. I it was related to the size of the picture to I greatly reduced their size and tried a smaller version on still nothing. Quote
Bradley Morgan Posted March 6, 2016 Report Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) Once you open the GIF in Inkscape are you selecting the image? Use the selection arrow, click on the image, and it should have a dashed line around the image. Then go to Path, Trace Bitmap. You will now have the new image on top of the old image. You can make sure the new image is selected and change the stroke and fill. Edited March 7, 2016 by Brad109 Quote
Travis Posted March 7, 2016 Report Posted March 7, 2016 Scrappile sent me the file and I was able to take a look. Basically, the pattern is in grey already. The default settings on Inkscape work well if the image is in black and white. But since it's grey, it has a tough time finding the edges. So what you have to do is increase the sensitivity. Change the threshold to .70 and give it a try. Quote
