Dan-Woodman Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Will Inkscape let you save line drawings as vector files? I'm not thatgreat with computors, so go easy on me here. I have a CNC Carving machine (Carvewright) and want to turn scrollsaw portaits into vector paths so my machine will either cut through thin wood, or cut on the path line with a V bit. Thanks for any help. later Daniel Quote
Travis Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Yup. Inkscape is a vector based program. The default file format is SVG which stands for Scalable Vector Graphic. SVG is the most universal format for vector graphics. So if the carveright takes vectors, you should be fine. BTW...I'm a little envious of your carveright. I think it would be so much fun to have one in my shop. It might be my next major purchase. Quote
Dan-Woodman Posted January 19, 2010 Author Report Posted January 19, 2010 Thanks Travis,I may have to download that one and try it. I've had my Carvewright almost 4 years now, in Feb. Does this forum get credit if I download thru a link here? later Daniel Quote
Travis Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Nope. You can just go to Inkscap.org and download it. Its a free, open source program, so there's no money changing hands. We have a bunch of tutorials in the Village University if you're new to Inkscape/pattern designing. If you get stuck, just let us know. Quote
Dan-Woodman Posted January 19, 2010 Author Report Posted January 19, 2010 Thanks ,this is a great forum. very informative. Carvewright has a fourm , on there website if your interested. later Daniel Quote
Dan-Woodman Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 iI just talked with the guys on the CW forum, and the machine does not accept SVG files. Is there any other format or software I can take the SVG into and save it as PNG,PTN . later Daniel Quote
Travis Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Yup. Inkscape will save as a PNG. Select your design then Go to File>Export Bitmap Just note that when its in PNG format, you can't edit it again in Inkscape. So be sure to save an Inkscape version as well. Quote
