Frank Pellow Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 One of my many other hobbies is carving in the style of the North American west coast First Nation's style. This week I am attending a carving course in Port Townsend Washington and, yesterday, I completed a whimsical carving/painting of a mosquito. The style is Haida but the design is all mine. I'm giving some thought into making a scroll saw patter with a design similar to this. Lucky2 and Fab4 2 Quote

Scrolling Steve Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 I like ti Frank !....Love the Haida art style, and have cut several haida influenced pieces !.....Looks great ! Quote
oldhudson Posted October 15, 2016 Report Posted October 15, 2016 Very unusual but I really like it. How big is it? what kind of stock? Quote
Frank Pellow Posted October 15, 2016 Author Report Posted October 15, 2016 Berry (Oldhudson), I carved the piece using the Haida people's favourite carving ood, that is British Columbia (or Alaska) yellow cedar. It's also my favourite wood to carve. The piece is 25 cm high 35 cm wide and 2 cm thick. Quote
Frank Pellow Posted May 15, 2017 Author Report Posted May 15, 2017 I have now named this piece. The name is Mosquito Attack. I've also framed it. It's another Rosseter-Pellow frame, this time made of British Columbia Fir, stained black but rubbed almost immediately so that the grain of the Fir shows through. In two weeks I will be taking Mosquito Attack to Pellow's Camp and installing it our cabin. We are too familiar with attacking mosquitos at Pellow's Camp. Quote
Scrappile Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 I love it. I really love this type of art. And Port Townsend, one of my favorite towns to visit. I went to a wood kayak meet there many years ago and have wanted to go to the wooden boat show, but have not made it yet. Quote
meflick Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 Interesting piece of artwork there Frank. Looks very nice and will look good on the wall at the camp's cabin I am sure. Like you, I too am familiar with the attack of mosquitos but think I would rather not be reminded of them! LOL Quote
spirithorse Posted June 3, 2017 Report Posted June 3, 2017 (edited) Interesting and unusual piece, Frank, I hope it keeps the other mosquitos away. Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse Edited June 3, 2017 by spirithorse typing error. Quote
