gimp question

Does anyone know how to anchor a layer? I tried clicking on the anchor symbol, but doesn't do anything. I'm trying to draw an oval but after I do, it's a dotted line and if I do anything else without anchoring, it deletes the oval.

Hi Nicholas. How are you drawing the oval? I'm guessing that if it's dotted lines, you're using the selection tool. Whatever is within that oval circle is the part of the drawing that can be manipulated (assuming you selected the layer you want to manipulate). You also mentioned that you're clicking the anchor symbol. I'm not sure what that is. Are you referring to the link symbol?
