NiTay614 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Over two years ago I had surgey on my neck due to herniated discs at C5, C6, and C7. This was causing issues with a nerve and subjected me to excrutiating pain. I was forced to sacrifice my pursuit of an education and my GPA and membership in the National Honr society. Following the recent experience, it appears that this is still a problem. I am still struggling with numbness, but I am using my humor to deal with it. Last week, my husband and I did some home improvement. We painted the trim on our home. We have lived here for over 13 years and could not decide what color to paint the trim. Needless to say, our home was an Easter egg. As I was struggling to manage to hold the paint brush, I was over come with laughter. I am threatening to spray paint the front yard green due to the abscence of grass, but I am painting the backyard which does have grass brown everytime I drop my brush or the roller. I also learned that no matter how muchsun screen one uses, when you subjct yourself to the sun being reflected off white vinyl siding, YOU ARE GOING TO GET A SUN BURN!!!! I look like a fresh cooked lobster. Life is fun if you choose to make it such! Quote
amazingkevin Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Another thing that works for me is to have a hundred dollar bill in my pocket.you'd me amazed at how good that makes me feel. i have'nt seen one in well over two years, but i smile alot anyway.I don't know how anybody puts up with pain.a headache will drive me up a wall.I know one person that removed all the grass piled it up in one pile coverd it with a tarp and painted the lawnmower gold and set it on top of the pile to this day theres no grass there. Stones and everything else though. maintanance free yard! lol.Sprinkle Rye grass seed on top of the ground and one rain and you'll have the greenest yard over night guaranteed! Quote
Travis Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 That's a great way to look at life. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in what's going on here and now and focus on the negative. Its good to stand back and laugh every once in awhile. It sure does wonders for the blood pressure. Quote
greasemonkeyredneck Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 It's good to laugh at ourselves sometimes, anything to lighten up things. One I like to tell about my woodworking doesn't actually have to do with my disabilities, but I find it funny anyway and decided to add it too this thread. A while back I was working on a carousel horse. There's photos of it somewhere in my gallery here at SSV. Anyway, that thing is covered with a lot (I mean a LOT) of tiny flowers. It was my first time using spray paint on my woodwork. I'd lay them out on a board, a number of them that was supposed to be the same color on it's on board and another color on another board. Then I'd start spraying them from a good distance back so as not to blow them off the board. Then I'd blow them off the board. Then I'd cuss them a few times, clean them off, or recut the one's that broke, and go through the whole process again. Man I was getting aggrevated. My wife came visiting the shop and sat over there watching all this for a while without so much as a word. When she finally tired of silently laughing at me, she got up. Without saying a word, she walked over to my supply rack and picked up a roll of masking tape. She made a loop of tape, stuck it to the board and started sticking the flowers to the tape. The flowers blew away no more. She still likes to tell people how the carousel horse would have probably never gotten finished without her. Quote
