JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted January 4, 2018 Author Report Posted January 4, 2018 Len not going to get printers for $40 here and cartridges for that low a price. With the new printers on the market the manufacturers are getting wise to all the aftermarket suppliers and being able to refill on your own and this chip is getting smarter and smarter along with the computers they are used on. They want the market cornered. You better hold onto that Cannon because I looked at Cannons in Best buy yesterday and I would not touch them. The door fell off the one that is rated #1 in mags. You have to have the tray down in order to print. Not worth much if you are doing with wifi. The guy was surprised. Another one that was rated high, the screen is only front mounted and does not swing up. I can not bend over to look at the touch screen every time I want to use it. I liked the buttons over the touch screens but that is where they all are going. 3 color ink is the rave today as opposed to 5 color. So you use more ink than normal. Just another ploy to get more money. I use my printer/copier alot so I need one and will have to make a choice next week. I already miss it. I am going to take mine apart this weekend and maybe something stupid will show up. You never know. I had no problem with it until this week. Must have had it for about 5 years now guessing. My old one I was able to copy photos right from my sd card. Many do not have that option any more either. But some are putting usb ports on them to use a flash drive. I hate buying electronics. OCtoolguy Posted January 4, 2018 Report Posted January 4, 2018 I've had it for a few months now and it hasn't let me down yet. It works flawlessly and I can't see that it has used much ink at all. At least to the eye, the tanks are still full. There really is nothing to go wrong once you get the air purged out of the hose. The cartridge is the key to the whole thing and if you follow the installation instructions it goes very quick and easy. The crazy thing is that after printing for a while, the printer thinks the cartridge is empty and you get a message to change it. All you have to do is press the reset button and follow the screen prompts and it's all good to go again. I'm very happy so far and since it was no more expensive than one set of new cartridges, I figured it was worth the gamble. Ray Quote

It seems Cannon is getting alot of nods. Will look into it. Thanks again. Cannon goes through ink like crazy and the ink is expensive. I had one and gave it away to Sally Ann after 3 months. I wish this printer was working because I have a couple dated March 2018 and would love to see if they worked by then but that will not happen I guess. I know I had outdated ones in the printer and it told me they were outdated but you can bypass it and continue to use or at least I was able to. If I can find the article about how to trick those chips I will post. I know I read it somewhere. Now if any these tricks work or not I do not know. But you can also screw up the heads if ink runs out. So be aware of that too. Ink buying is one of the biggest scams in the printing industry. Those chips in the refills are ways to keep tract of your usage and most times force you to buy new when not needed. That is why the printers are so cheap. Companies make their money on the ink. There are many threads out there on the web about all this. I do know about the tricking the printer thing.. the company that I bought the cheap refilled ink sent instructions on how to do it.. but the kicker for me was.. I had to do this every single time I wanted to print a shipping label etc.. while I could have made it work.. but during busy times of the year when I was packing 20 - 30 orders a day.. it just wasn't cost worthy.. also shortly after doing this crap is when my printer died.. it was old.. and I'm not saying this was a reason or had anything to do with it.. I'm just stating my experience with it.. I wouldn't do it with a new printer.. maybe chance it with a older one like I did a few years ago when I went through all this.. I've read that you should always use OEM inks.. what got me to try it was my brother in law.. he had luck doing the cheap refills for a couple years before his printer died.. maybe just worn out or possibly using these inks.. He was buying / refilling them through a local store.. and it seems like it was Walgreens or something similar.. I know I had to ask a few times where it was because it was an odd place that you wouldn't think would have this type of thing.. I bought my inks online.. I think it was from a site called printerink4less or something like that.. good people to deal with but like I said.. the hassles wasn't worth the savings for me.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

My epson has the SD MS Duo and USB card slot.. it is touch screen though.. however the screen is about 4 x 3 inch.. maybe bigger.. and easily seen.. only 3 ink cartridges though and it's much cheaper to operate that the old HP was.. not saying the ink is cheaper.. just saying that the overall printing itself is cheaper.. maybe it holds more ink per cartridge.. I don't know but I don't have to be changing them all the time.. I myself have printed around 2000 receipts / shipping labels, patterns etc.. in the last two years.. plus my daughter does online college and has to print out her books / homework papers etc.. and the wife and daughter always printing pictures for paper crafts etc they do.. It gets used a lot.. Not saying it's the best printer.. just giving you an idea of my work load on it.. do I think it's cheap built.. Yeah... they all are.. also I also looked at a printer at Best Buy that the door was broke off.. that was a couple years ago and I don't remember the brand but I couldn't believe how cheap they have become.. For what it's worth.. they do have some $30 40 printers at Walmart.. and guess what.. not even shipped with any ink to get started with... They got my friend on that one Hahaha.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted January 4, 2018 Author Report Posted January 4, 2018 Yea the printers are shipped with test ink and they last a very short time so better to buy a set right away. I will try to get some kind of deal on the first set of inks if I can. I can play the hardship case pretty well. If all you are doing is shipping labels than color is not a problem for you. You go through black more often. I print patterns in black also it saves there. as I said I do decal work and photos for my pens and use color there. I need a reliable color printer. I have looked at all brands and read reviews and they all have negative reviews but the positives out weigh the negs. Hopefully I do not get a lemmon. Next week I am going to Staples and Office Max/Depot and get some of their thoughts and make a decision. Right now I am back to a HP or a Brother. No verdict yet. If you are not particular about colors then you may get away with third party inks. As I said I tried the refilling thing by drilling holes and they give you a little plug but that was a pain in the butt because you needed a syringe for each color and it could get messy. I buy the ink and write it off any way but having a printer that does not give me problems is what I am after. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Lucky2 Posted January 4, 2018 Report Posted January 4, 2018 John, I just watched the video on ink cartridges you just posted, and I can't figure out what they're talking about? The ink cartridges I use are not clear, but they can be seen through. So when my printer signals that it is out of ink, I can see that it is when I look at the cartridge. The video may be of some use if the cartridge can't be seen into, but all of the cartridges that I've ever bought for the Canon printer were semi-clear. That is another thing I like about the Canon printer, you can actually tell if the ink cartridge is empty. Len OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Lucky2 Posted January 4, 2018 Report Posted January 4, 2018 John, I'm surprised that they are more expensive in the states, everything there is usually a lot cheaper. But I do recall checking out the prices on computer and printers there years ago, and I was very surprised to see what they were. They were much more expensive there then they are here, I wonder why. One of the first questions I am asked when I cross the border, is if I bought any type of electronics. I've never asked why they ask this question, but I would like to know why. I'm sorry that your not interested in the Canon printer, I think it would do everything you need. But I can well understand you passing on them, especially, if they are more money. No one wants to spend more money on something, when there's another something that's cheaper and does the same thing. Good luck with whichever brand you decide to purchase, I hope it lasts you a long time. Len OCtoolguy 1 Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted January 13, 2018 Author Report Posted January 13, 2018 Just a little update. All the new printers/copiers/scanners today are not compatible with WindowsXP64 may work on XP32 or maybe not. Found out the hard way. I was kind of thinking this when I asked this question and that is why I followed up with changing my operating system to windows 10 Bought another HP and had a tech load drivers from some other printer to patch this into my computer. It does some of the things I need it to do so I will live with it. Bought the extended warrenty so after 2 years I will drop it and it will break so I will get a new one. Learned some things buying this stupid thing. Just wanted others to know if you are operating XP Quote
