So I have a question.  I have a friend who is big into Celtic history, loves the Outlander books/TV series, and has asked that I cut a couple of Celtic crosses for her.  No problem, just need a pattern, right?  So she sends me some pics of Etsy jewelery.  Well....I know that those pics/patterns are probably not public-domain since someone is selling the earrings/necklaces, so making a pattern in GIMP is probably not going to fly, unless I modify it enough that it is different from the originals.  Problem is, the pictures were not taken head-on, so not only am I having to rotate the picture on the horizontal axis, but spin on the vertical axis as well, which is way beyond my GIMP skills.  So, with all of that impossibility aside, does anyone know of a good tutorial or program that will help me create NEW Celtic knots that I can then convert into patterns on my own?  I've got little enough faith in my freehand abilities to pencil out a pattern on graph paper and scan it in....scanning is no problem, but when I draw, my stick figures tend to look like ....other things.  "...Nice picture of a potato, Kirk." "Um...it was supposed to be a 70's Camaro."

Freeware is definitely appreciated, but I'd be willing to shell out a buck or two for a good, solid, easy-to-use-yet-fairly-comprehensive program if anyone knows a good, solid, non-malware application that allows one to create Celtic knots, as well.

I did a quick google search for free celtic knots and got a large number that I think how several you should be able to use to create a few from I think. Not sure exactly what you want or how much detail so I figured it would be easier for you to do a search and find what you want to use.

I was also looking towards the future, creating my own patterns/designs, possibly, instead of just using Google images.

ETA:  Thanks for the suggestion, I've found several on images.google.com that have elements that would work for the design she wants, I'd just have to snip them apart and combine them.  If I came across as dismissive before, my apologies!
