tomsteve Posted September 15, 2018 Report Posted September 15, 2018 (edited) i got my VS control in from ray at seyco today so time to dig in. aaaaaand stop. the VS plugs into the circuit board i assume. has anyone had their EX apart to get to the circuit board and if so whats involved? its looking like i have to disassemble a wee bit to get to it but not sure- maybe im missing something real simple? if its too complicateded i think i may splice and solder the wires for it up on top of the upper arm. kmmcrafts Posted September 15, 2018 Report Posted September 15, 2018 Never has mine apart so I don't know.. I took the plate off the back opposite of the motor side and in there s just the motor and connecting rob etc.. Then i have a plastic threaded plug below that plate.. took that off and I see the circuit board in there.. I'm thinking you have to split that case in the back.. just all those smaller screws that go through both sides.. I'd think it you pull the nuts off opposite the side and left the screws in you should be able to just pull the cover off and leave everything else in tack.. I'm getting ready to head out for the evening.. otherwise I'd take those off my saw just to see.. I have a curious mind like that and want to know whats in there and how it comes apart..or goes back together, LOL But anyway.. having had many saws apart I don't think there are any surprises in there just try to leave all the screws in there and try pulling off just the one side after removing those nuts.. amazingkevin Posted September 16, 2018 Report Posted September 16, 2018 Try to find your saw here and it will show you. all and where the parts are ereplacementparts.com Quote
OCtoolguy Posted September 16, 2018 Report Posted September 16, 2018 Here is a youtube link that shows a bit of how the machine comes apart. It looks like it would be fairly easy to fish the wiring down through the arm to the back of the machine and from what I could see in the video it appears that the wires are connected with screws and not solder joints or plug-ins. It's hard to understand his British accent but I think if you just watch the video and look at how it comes apart, you will have enough info to fix yours. Good luck, take your time and just think about what you are doing. Quote
kmmcrafts Posted September 16, 2018 Report Posted September 16, 2018 Ray I don't believe those connections with the screws are not from the speed controller.. as the speed controller has a plug in connector on it.. if you go to seycos web site and look under scroll saw parts.. there at the bottom is a picture of the speed controller.. there is also a picture of the circuit board too.. I think he's going to have to split the case.. if you unscrew the plastic plug just under the metal plate that this guy in the video has off to expose the connecting rod.. look into the hole after removing that plastic plug you'll see the circuit board... Only way I see to access it is to split that side plate off OCtoolguy and tomsteve 1 1 Quote
tomsteve Posted September 16, 2018 Author Report Posted September 16, 2018 thanks, all. kevin, im pretty sure it has to be split to get to the board, too. heading out to break her open and see how it goes. ill take some pics and post later. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted September 16, 2018 Report Posted September 16, 2018 You should be able to download (maybe there us one in your owners manual) a what-do-you-call-it picture of all your parts, a parts diagram I would think that would show your where it plugs in. I took my Ex apart once, but it was several years ago and I don't remember all of it, but I didn't need to split the case apart. the very back piece comes off and you have access to the circuit board. If I remember correctly, I took some screws out in the back and the end piece sorts of drops down and out. It was not difficult. Like I stated it was a while ago. I'm sure Ray can talk you through it if needs be. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
tomsteve Posted September 16, 2018 Author Report Posted September 16, 2018 thanks all. the problem wasnt so much where it plugs in as how to get to it. i knew it plugged into the circuit board but not sure how to get to it. turns out its not that bad. the circuit board is tucked in part #61-control box. that has screws along the top and back of the frame that have to comeout. take the tension knob off( a little hex set screw holds it in) and lift plastic up over it, then the box will slide down. the 2 wires visible through the gear cover(part #40) are ground and removing them give a little more room to move the control box out. simple plug for VS control and easy to remove and plug in new one. in all it took about an hour. good time to clean up my baby and the stand top and add a coat of poly, too! kmmcrafts and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote

I'm happy to hear you got it all fixed. I guess I might have led you wrong with the video. I looked at it and saw those ground wires and figured that was part of the speed control harness etc. Sorry about that. But, I see you figured it all out. In most cases, it's just nuts and bolts. Iearned something from this too so it was all good. tomsteve and kmmcrafts 2 Quote
