John B Posted April 9, 2019 Author Report Posted April 9, 2019 The theory goes, a smear of Vegemite in your hair scares them off. Quote
Scrappile Posted April 10, 2019 Report Posted April 10, 2019 Ha! I love Australians. I should have been born one. I love their humor, their expressions... all of things I know about them. Doesn't mean I understand everything they post...... John, mate, please explain this to me... wombatie 1 Quote
wombatie Posted April 10, 2019 Report Posted April 10, 2019 Hey John, we once went down to Philip Island, way south in Victoria, (Google it) and there was a Koala park. We were in a friends car and driving through the middle of the park and a Koala fell out of a tree and landed on the roof of the car, no joke. Made a lovely dent in the roof and certainly woke the Koala up. Now that was a Drop Bear. Marg John B 1 Quote

Paul, as is known the world over , just about every thing in Australia can kill you In fact we do not have any large carnivores, with the exception of crocs in the North and Dingo's, but they are very rarely a danger. so we invented one, the drop bear. Foreigners are warned about them when going camping, and every boy scout or youngster that has been camping out in the bush, knows to look out for drop bears. There have been thousands of kids wandering around bush camps with Vegemite in their hair. My Dad even had us kids convinced that they only lived in a certain type of tree, and you can bet we knew where almost every one of those trees were on the farm Quote
Scrappile Posted April 11, 2019 Report Posted April 11, 2019 That is great! Kinda like snipe hunting in America. Maybe that is not just in America, I don't know. When I was in the service, stationed in Hawaii, we were on one of the islands, doing practice maneuvers. During a lull in a practice battle, I told some of the fellow Marines we should go snipe hunting. I took them out and got them set up. It didn't go over too well, not only were my "brother in arms" going to do me bodily damage, there was talk of court martial. I guess it was decided it would be embarrassing to the Corps to admit that the Marines got caught snipe hunting! meflick, John B and stoney 3 Quote
tgiro Posted April 12, 2019 Report Posted April 12, 2019 I think I just did a WIP/tutorial about those. Mine were a lot calmer though. John B 1 Quote
