Zorro1958 Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Hi all So, I am working on my 1st image and, I am looking for some critique (be gentle - LOL)... Any remarks on: Is there enough wood left? What guide-lines are there? I am concerned about finishing the bottom lip. Afraid I'll lose it all together - suggestions? The center of the eyes, I will try and connect both, upwards and down, suggestions? Should more of any areas be removed? The wrinkles in the neckline... Too much, not enough? Oh, and... What thickness of wood to use. I have some very thin I was gonna use, I think 5/32. Just looking for tips... Gonna try and upload both the original and pattern. This is fun I have probably 3-4 hours in this pattern already, but it's my 1st. Thinking about getting a digital tablet - this drawing with a mouse is gonna wear out my ctrl-z keys.. Anyone out there use one of those? Thanks, Quote
Oges Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 Looks pretty good for your first go The eyes are always the hardest thing to do, either try connecting them from the top or bottom, whatever looks best Quote
grampa Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Hi Bert, Great job on the pattern, like Brett says make sure the eyes are right its the first thing people look at, get them wrong and the pattern looks wrong All I would do is put more detail in the beard and bottom lip and your good to go, I hope you don't mind but I did the eyes and lip to show you what I mean. Great job, don't forget to show us when you have cut it........Paul Quote
Zorro1958 Posted January 10, 2011 Author Report Posted January 10, 2011 Thanks, I really like how you did the eyes. I had tried attaching from the top and bottom, but not off the right side like that. I'll probably go back and mimic a version of that - seems more appealing. And yeah, I've been playing with outlines to the bottom lip, similar to what you have. Should have it ready soon... Then, on to the scrolling :-) Thanks again Quote
Firedkm Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 You have a great start on this pattern. I also agree with grandpa about some more detail in the beard area. Quote
Lastchance Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Ya done good. Remember, no matter how good the pattern is, follow your gut when cutting. Many times, you see things during a cut that the patten don't account for. Some of my best work came from mistakes i made during cutting. Quote
Dan Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Yes, more detail in the beard may define the lower lip. I think you are doing an outstanding job. Better than I can do by far. Quote
toolbeltman Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Good job on your first pattern Bert....I hope I can do as well when I finally get started making patterns... Quote
Eagledrum70 Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 That is awesome for your first attempt and like everyone else has said just a little more detail in beard and the eyes are most important . Grampa done a real good job showing example on eyes. Happy Scrolling Eagledrum70 Quote
