scroller777 Posted December 6, 2019 Report Posted December 6, 2019 This is actually a 3 part question. 1. How do I see a response to a question? I ask question in one of the many main topics, if someone responds, how do I know? Shy of researching that topic again, or is that the only way? 2. Is there a way of having my setting in such a way that I can see the latest posts? I find myself digging through the site trying to see what someone had to say last night, I don't necessarily need to read all the new posts. 3. I have a new computer, installed Inkscape. For some reason, SCRIPT is not one of my font options. Dafont.com is a challenge as well. I see the name of newly downloaded fonts in the list but nothing is there. I must be doing something terribly wrong. Any help would be appreciated Thank you Steve OCtoolguy 1 Quote
meflick Posted December 6, 2019 Report Posted December 6, 2019 (edited) Hi Steve and welcome. First, are you visiting via a computer, an iPad, a phone or other devices? I ask because what you see and how you see it is different depending upon the device that you use. You can "Bookmark" a topic thread - It is at the bottom of the post next to "quote" - I don't use the bookmark so I am not sure exactly how it works. On my computer - in the top right side, just below the search box, is a "Unread" content - if you click on that - it will take you to another page that shows what you have not read, there are choices and things you can make there in regards to what is shown and how, and you can do a "condensed" version or an "expended" version - just click around on that page and see what each thing does. It won't hurt anything. I also don't use that feature either. I typically just go to the Forums sub tab and it will list all of the "Sub forums" - If the heading of a particular subform is in "bold" - I know there are items that have been added new, or someone has commented on since I was last there so I will go to the sub forum and read any I want. When I go into that sub forum - same thing - Thread title is in Bold if it has been commented on or added since I last looked, if I want to read it - I click on that thread. You will also notice that at the start of that thread is either a "dot" or a "star" - if it is a new thread that I have not looked at at all - it will have a dot - BUT if it is a thread I have looked at before BUT did not comment on - it will still show the dot. If it has a "star" then I know that I have previously commented on it and if it is bold star and thread title - then others have commented on it after me so if I want to look at it to see what those comments are, then I click on the star or dot and it will take me to the posts that have been added since I was last viewing that thread. Once I have looked at all the threads I want to in a particular subform - if I didn't look at them all - I click on the top right where it says "mark all read" or something like that and it will take them all to being non bold - even if I didn't look at them that time. You can also find a "Mark Site Read" on some areas and it will do that for the entire forum at once. I'm sure @Travis our fearless leader can give you more insight and information. On the fonts you download from Dafont or any other place, usually they are in a zip file and you need to extract them from the zipped file and then you have to install them on your computer so that they are placed in your font system file. JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted December 7, 2019 Report Posted December 7, 2019 (edited) When you click on the forums page, there is a bell and a letter on top of the page next to your name on the right side. If someone has posted to your thread that you either started or answered to there will be a number next to the bell. Click on bell and it will tell you who did what and click on the person and you can read what they wrote or if they just liked your post. If is has the word reacted at the beginning means they hit the heart button and liked your post. If the word quoted is used means they used your quote and replied using your quote. Play around a little and you will get the hang of the site. The letter is for your private messages. Edited December 7, 2019 by JTTHECLOCKMAN OCtoolguy and Travis 1 1 Quote

If there's a dot, and it's bold, it means there are unread posts. Click the dot, and it will take you to the first unread post. If it's not bold, that means that you've read everything in that thread. If there is a star, it means that is a thread you posted a comment in. If it's bold, that means there are new comments since the last time you looked at the thread. If you click the star, it will take you to the first unread post. In your user preferences, you can be notified when someone comments in a thread you commented in or started. You can find that by clicking the pulldown next to your name int he upper right corner and choosing Account Settings, then clicking Notification Settings in the Other settings area. (https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/notifications/options/) Yours was checked off, I went ahead and turned it on for you. Notifications will show up in the upper right corner next tot he Bell icon. Click the bell to see your notifications. You can follow any thread if you commented or not by clicking the Follow button in the upper right corner of the thread. The Bookmark function is only available to SSV Patrons. This is just a nice feature to bookmark a resource you may want to revisit later. 2) At the top of the forum, there is a button that says Unread Content. Click that and it only shows the unread content. For more control, at the top of the screen, there is an Activity tab. Click that and it gives you more options, such as All Activity, Unread Content, Content I started along with a ton of other filters. In fact, you can even create your own filtered activity streams if you want to look at only specific things. 3) I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. A new computer won't have the same fonts as your old computer. New computers only come with a select number of common fonts. You can download other fonts from sites like DaFont.com. Once you download it, double click the font and it will open a preview. In the corner, there is a button that says "Install" Click that to install on your system. Usually, you have to restart the program you are using (such as Inkscape) in order to see your newly installed font. I hope this helps. Let us know if you're still having trouble. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
