I asked in the pattern request for a pattern that I originally thought was to be a scroll sawn portrait.. but then my daughter informed me they wanted it carved.. but that they'll also want some portraits at a later date.. Anyway.. I figured this would be a quick job on the CNC.. I know most impression of these machines is that they whip out projects in record time, LOL  Now I do know I can fool with some settings and speed up the process.. but since I'm still learning the thing I haven't really messed with any speed settings to speed things up.. Even so I don't think you'd shave off a huge amount of time...  The oval shape size is approximately 7 wide by around 10 High.. carved on 3/4 Maple.. I put shelf liner on the project so i could paint the black portion with minimal getting onto the other surface to have to sand off.. Sealed the wood with about 5 coats of lacquer before applying the shelf liner.. then after carved sprayed the black.. then sanded and re-coated with the Lacquer.. The oval shape was only carved.. I don't have a spoil board on the CNC bed yet so I used the CNC to carve the outer shape then i scroll sawed the oval shape out of the bank..

My carving time without factoring in the set-up of the machine.. or any other time involved  ONLY the machine carving time was 64 minutes.. I'm guessing overall time start to finish  ( Installed a D loop type hanger ) I have around 2 - 2.5 hours into this piece.. I'm quite certain I can stack cut 5 of these and finish them etc in less time than the CNC did this one piece..  I like to post the times etc that it takes me to do the CNC pieces because I think most folks that do not know these machines may find it interesting... I myself always thought that these machines would crank out parts at least double the speeds of a scroll sawn project.. I have yet seen that... though I am still learning.. and as I said.. I haven't messed with any of the speed settings of the machine.. I may be wrong.. but I'm doubting one could cut the times in half of what they come set up at to do... Maybe someone here that has one could verify this..

@Phantom Scroller Those ties are cool... I have a file for a Harley wall clock that I want to try to make.. I'm not quite sure how to go about carving it as I'm not sure I really understand what parts to carve with what bit.. Kinda like first starting scroll sawing when the pattern has no colors to depict what parts are the ones you cut and what parts are wood, LOL  Someone on a CNC forum said they'd use 3 bits.. They claim it'd take around 3 hours run time not including the bit changes.. They mentioned a end mill and a ( I forgot the sizes) ball nose bit.. also another bit but I forgot that one too.. This was on a free CNC files facebook group.. You do anything like this type of carving? any suggestions? I'm not a Harley guy but my brother keeps asking me to hen i'm going to make something Harley.. so i thought I'd "Try" making this to send him..Just a learning thing to try to make..
