CUTTING SANDLE WOOD

Customer gave me a chunk of very aromatic sandal wood to but a name in. very dense wood and the 1/16" drill exploded(noise) everytime trying to drill. Guess it got super hot but upon entering it would pop? 1" thick x 5" Really hard stuff
