Hi everyone,

my first post. We bought a used Craftsman 20" scroll saw that now needs some basic maintenance - a small part came loose and fell out from the top back part of the saw. We have taken off the motor cover and the screws that hold the two halves together, but are unsure how to proceed. I assume we'll have to take it off the base. We removed two rubber plugs from the top, one from each side to reveal what appears to be a shaft. If you look to the left of the label, it is the larger ring. I'm hoping we can just pull the two halves apart, reinstall the part, tighten any screws or bolts, lubricate any moving parts and reassemble. Does this sound right? Any tips or other advice would be appreciated!

Patrick

Based on the pictures and the manual I'd say the shaft you are referring to contain the bearings assemblies. If I understand what you are asking is if you can separate the left from the right side of the frame. I don't think it's possible. Read the manual. I think Larry found the manual but you may want to search the model number to be sure. The part that may have fallen off may be a nut that connects the upper arm to the lower arm via a rod. I've see this before. There should be an access panel on the back that will access the area to make some repairs. Even if you can split the frame I'd check everything else before doing it.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.
