PatrickBM Posted January 6, 2021 Report Posted January 6, 2021 Hi everyone, my first post. We bought a used Craftsman 20" scroll saw that now needs some basic maintenance - a small part came loose and fell out from the top back part of the saw. We have taken off the motor cover and the screws that hold the two halves together, but are unsure how to proceed. I assume we'll have to take it off the base. We removed two rubber plugs from the top, one from each side to reveal what appears to be a shaft. If you look to the left of the label, it is the larger ring. I'm hoping we can just pull the two halves apart, reinstall the part, tighten any screws or bolts, lubricate any moving parts and reassemble. Does this sound right? Any tips or other advice would be appreciated! Patrick OCtoolguy 1 Quote
LarryEA Posted January 7, 2021 Report Posted January 7, 2021 I don't think there are many Craftsman saw users here. I'm no help, just want to keep your post active so someone may see it that can help OCtoolguy 1 Quote
JustLarry Posted January 7, 2021 Report Posted January 7, 2021 Saw manual may give you some insight on how the saw is assembled. Here is link to a manual that shows picture of saw that looks like yours? The manual indicates an oil port in the same area as one of your pictures shows an opening. https://usermanual.wiki/Craftsman/137216200.1320433506/html Larry OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Dan Posted January 7, 2021 Report Posted January 7, 2021 Based on the pictures and the manual I'd say the shaft you are referring to contain the bearings assemblies. If I understand what you are asking is if you can separate the left from the right side of the frame. I don't think it's possible. Read the manual. I think Larry found the manual but you may want to search the model number to be sure. The part that may have fallen off may be a nut that connects the upper arm to the lower arm via a rod. I've see this before. There should be an access panel on the back that will access the area to make some repairs. Even if you can split the frame I'd check everything else before doing it. Good luck and let us know what you find out. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
amazingkevin Posted January 7, 2021 Report Posted January 7, 2021 Show us what and where it came off so we can better help! OCtoolguy 1 Quote
PatrickBM Posted January 14, 2021 Author Report Posted January 14, 2021 Thanks everyone! The parts diagram was helpful. We spread the scroll saw apart slowly and were able to replace the missing part. And, it is quieter now! OCtoolguy, Roberta Moreton and John B 2 1 Quote
