MikeFlem Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 Hi All, I received a free Craftsmen Scroll Saw that wasn't working. I flipped it over and determined that one of the two "eccentric assembly" (aka- weights on the motor shaft??) was loose and driving into the body of the saw. I was able to adjust it, but I have no idea what the correct position of these weights/eccentric assemblies should be- are they offset or in line, or something else?? Here are some photos to help. The screen shot of the diagram shows one eccentric assembly, but my saw has two. Any help would be greatly appreciated! If someone could just share a photo of the underside of their saw showing the position/alignment, that would be a great help! IMG_9328.HEIC IMG_9329.HEIC OCtoolguy 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 Hi Mike, Welcome to the village. Craftsman made a lot of different models of saws so it might help others if you can post a model number and or a photo of the saw so we get someone that might have one of the same ones to get the info you need. I have very limited knowledge on the Craftsman line of saws so I have no clue.. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 I would look at the motor shaft and see if the set screws left any impressions on the shaft. I would think there would be some marks. I'm not familiar with your saw but that's what I would look for. Quote
OCtoolguy Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 (edited) I tried to open your 2 attachments but they are of some strange format that I can't open. Maybe you can try uploading them in a .jpg. Edit: Never mind, I was able to do a file conversion on them and I see what you have now. Have you tried moving the one that was loose around to see if it affects the balance? How about just mounting them 180 degrees from each other? Edited February 6 by OCtoolguy Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 Always helps to give us as much info as you can. Model number of the saw. Name of the saw also serial number of the saw. Show us what parts you are interested in. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 I'll wager that this is going to be another "one-and-done" postings. we'll never find out what the poster did to remedy his situation. kmmcrafts 1 Quote

Hard to help people that way. Especially when they do not supply enough info to even begin the search. I do not mind doing some searching but we are all privy to the same internet. Words are important in any search. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
kmmcrafts Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 Hasn't even been a full day, not everyone is retired and has time to go look to see if they've received any answers.. Maybe they'll pop back this weekend and hope to be able to have some answers when they have time to be in the shop to work on it. My older brother is retired and he always asking me about going camping going to do this and that and he likes going to certain places in the daytime because it's not busy etc.. yeah not busy because everybody at work.. I can't just at the drop of the moment hook up my camper and go whenever I want.. some forget that after being retired for a few years. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

If you are really interested what does it take to take a few seconds to pop on. Weather retired or not. The thing that stings the most though is you do all the searching and maybe there was an answer in there but they do not mention it. Works 2 ways. I see on the pen turning forum too it has turned into a info center and not a forum where people share. Person gets an answer and they are gone. Hopefully this is not the case and they are just busy and maybe someone can help them here. I always like when that happens. Edited February 7 by JTTHECLOCKMAN kmmcrafts and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
