  1. I really like the look of lath art. I haven't tried it myself, though. I'm waiting for the shop to thaw a bit before I tackle one. Simple stained Glass patterns would really lend themselves well to lath art. Have you done any recently? I'd love to see some of your work! Lath art is a folk art similar to intarsia and marquetry. Instead of using different species to create depth, you use direction of lath strips (lath is the stuff that holds plaster on the walls of old plaster homes). It is really neat. I have several posts in SSG that you can read here.
  2. Does any one on this site do lath art??? I've done some of a number of years, and am just getting back into this form of wood working.....but I was hoping to find some one else.
  3. I've been carving for over 20 years and I can tell you that the absolutely best knives that I've ever found are DENNY KNIVES......you can get them from The Woodcraft Shop in Bettendorf, Iowa. I'm in no way working for the Woodcraft Shop...just a customer....in fact these folks are very trusting, after you've once ordered from them and have established that you are an honest person, they will allow you to call your next order in to them, and pay AFTER you've received your order in the mail.....not many companies will do that.
  4. Howdy all.... I'm a retired printer, turned wood carver, been at this for over 20 years, doing mostly caricatures of people and animals. I've also done some scroll sawing. But what I'm really interested in learning how to do is LATH ART. There are a few sites on the net about lath art.....but mostly these sites are in to showing off what they have for sale.....I WANT TO FIND OUT 'HOW TO DO IT'. A number of years ago, WOOD magazine had an article on Lath art which included a couple of patterns. One pattern was a Goose and the other pattern was entitled "Wet Land Visitors". This was a group of geese in a wooded setting.....I made each of those patterns...but that's the last that I've seen for a long time. So I'm hoping some one on this site, can guide me to some one who offers instructions on how I can do this for my self.....thanks
