  1. I have made a few outdoor items that I sealed with a Min Wax product called PolyAcrylic. It is a water based sealer that goes on easy, drys quickly to a clear gloss. I have a few items that have been outside for over 2 years and are still in good shape. The finish is still shimy.
  2. You have a picture of your scroll saw in your wallet. You've ever sold a scroll saw and called the new owner to see how your old saw was doing.
  3. I finally finished my second patiotic clock after several weeks of interuptions. I did another one because my sister saw my first one and dropped a hint that she woudn't mind having one of these if I were to make another one. I cut this one out of cherry. I wanted a deeper reddish color in the wood so I first stained it with a natural cherry stain and then sprayed it with several coats of clear lacquer. Not only did I have one interuption after another but just when I am doing the final routing on the base pieces my router goes screwy on me and died but not before messing up the last piece. All in all I am pleased with the final result.
  4. I just got my new (to me) scroll saw up and running. I found an RBI 226VS on Craigs list and bought it for $300. It came with 9 blade holders and about 60 or 70 dozen assorted blades and a foot switch. My son helped me put it together. I put the wheelchair legs from my 216VS on it and my son got to take the 216VS home. It looks like it was hardly used. Cuts a lot like my 216VS did but seems to be a little smoother.I really like the quick release lever up front.
  5. Now you know how the guy who is going thru an old barn and finds an old corvette thats been stored in the corner for years feels. Its kind of like an early Christmas present, can't wait to get it home and play with it. Have fun
  6. Has anyone been to Steve Goods site with all of his free downloads? http://www.stevedgood.com/web/catalog.html
  7. Hi all! I’m new to this site and forum. Live in Wisconsin, married, kids, grandkids, retired, disabled. I’ve been into wood working ever since I took it in high school shop more years ago than I care to remember. Like a lot of people I have always had a scroll saw sitting around my shop but just never had the time or inclination to use it. Then life happened and I ended up in a wheelchair and many of my other shop tools are difficult for me to use now so one day I decide to cut something with the scroll saw and find out I like it. After that I gave my cheap saw to my kid and bought a RBI 216VS and put the wheelchair legs on the front and the rest is history, I’m hooked. Now I have more patterns on my computer than I can cut in 10 years and I am always looking for more. I like fretwork, not into intarsia, yet! Still experimenting with different blades and hope to try cutting some aluminum patterns soon. I have a program I used for cutting vinyl lettering and find it works well to modify scroll patterns. Have tried taking photos and making patterns out of them but just haven’t gotten the hang of it yet.
