I'm on the road to being able to go back home. I'm doing the recovery now. Physical theropy and things. I've been told I may get to go home by the middle of next month, I'm going home by the end of this month. I am ready to get home and get back in my shop. I'm sure my saw is missing me. Though I have been able to work on some patterns though. I've also been able to read up on some new tricks so when I'm able to get back in the shop I should have plenty to keep me busy. Thanks for all the prayers. They are helping.

I also had planned to be in chat tonight, however I had physical therapy and was only suppose to last like 30 mins but, I am so ready to go home that I ended up making them work with me for 2 hours. I don't know what I want more, to just leave here and go home or to leave here and go to my shop. That's a tough one. I am sorry I didn't make it tonight but I know you all understand. They set a time frame to leave around middle of Feburary, my goal is to leave by the first of Feburary and no later than Valentines Day. I will try and start therapy earlier next week so I can share some sawdust chatter with you all.

For me it really wasn't something I even thought about doing as I use to mainly make miniatures and used the scrollsaw for that after selling the big woodshop I had. And like mentioned, I found myself on different forms and boards and blogs, so seeing all the great projects everyone made and started playing around with scrolling and before I knew it I was mostly doing scroll work. Now, I rarely do a miniature as I have found that there is more of an intrest in scroll work than miniatures unless of course it's dollhouses and still no one really wants to pay the price for a well built by hand dollhouse so, I got hooked in scrolling and been doing it since.

I don't know of any off hand but do know that over on the free scroll saw patterns site there are a few fonts there. you can also search in google for "public domain fonts" you'll get some results but make sure you read the copyrights if they are any as some public domain ones still have some requirements regarding using the fonts most of the ones i've seen is just give the credit to the author of a particular font. I'm sure some others will jump in on this with answers also. Hope this helps in the mean time.

I have the dewalt and love it, of course i wasn't the one that bought it, it was bought as a gift for me. Now I won't say that that's the one I would get though it is the best. What I would tell you is look at a few things before buying one. First, price, what you can get away with spending. Second, what features meaning thickness and size are you wanting it to be used for. These are just some of the options, I will say I would stay away from the cheaper one you said was around, I've not used their brand of planer but have used their brand of other tools and wasn't happy with them. Of course every tool I get isn't just for scrolling, I use them for other types as well and they are used a lot and put through the ringer. So in my case I always try and get the better quality ones, meaning I have to fork over more, but for me it's worth it in the long run. Now as far as the jointer question. I use a roter table to do my joining and only use them when putting pieces of materials together to make a bigger slab or to get a particular grain effect. You can get by without it unless you are planning on making large pieces. Hope this helps. I would suggest if you are going to think about getting a jointer, think about setting a router table up for it as the router table could be used for other things as well, kinda one tool for a bunch of uses. It helps with getting the "boss" to give in and let you get it.

I have both Coyetes and Gimp and if it wasn't for the fact that I had bought it before finding out about Gimp. I wouldn't have bought it. I only use that one now for intarsia patterns and my mom uses it to make sewing patterns, and that's only because I bought it and no need to let it go to waste. I agree with Clayton and Travis, once you get familiar with Gimp and even Inkscape also, you'll find that you can do just about anything with them and they are actually easier to learn, especially with the tutors Travis done. Hope this helps. In my opinion, I wouldn't waste your money on that program. Use the money to by maybe some more wood or even maybe a tablet or something....

I don't really have a favorite as with me it depends on what I'm cutting. Some types look better finished than others. This being said, I usually pick out the pattern first then figure out the type of wood I'll use to cut. I do find myself cutting a lot of cedar and popular though, but also love tiger maple for the grains. I also cut a lot of MDF also. Like I say, depends on the project.

To start off, I have to say thank you all. I don't know why I even stressed like I did, I should've knew things would've worked out. I am not going to go into detail about what I went through as it's personal, but will say, I'm okay and everything worked out. I kinda think it was just something that came on so fast and with everything else, made it that much harder. So, I guess I'm back, or back as much as I had been in the first place. Again, thank you all for the thoughts and prayers, they helped. One last thing. Never Underestimate the power of faith, it will amaze you. Everyone has a purpose and everything will be alright. God Bless.

I know it was just yesterday I said I would be say bye for a while. And that is true, I am somewhere where I have internet access and just wanted to give a quick update. Things are working out, well kinda. I'm still dealing with some issues, but I'm hoping I may not be away as long as I first thought. I also want to thank all of those that have showed the caring and gave me the kind words. It's nice to have such good friends. That's why I love this fourm so much. I will soon be getting things changed around and getting internet where I'm at now (hoping by next week). I've gotten one issue worked out to the best I could anyways. I'm hoping tomorrow the tests I'm having done will also return with ok results. I'm only asking for ok results as that's good enough for me right now. In the meantime, I will be able to hopfully be somewhere that has access until I get everything moved around, so I'll be checking in hoping daily but at least a few times between now and then. Thanks guys and gals for the prayers. I'm prove they do get answered. God Bless.

I've only got a minute or so, I will be checking my emails. You all don't know how much I appreciate the kind words I've recieved from you all. It's helped a lot. I'm hoping this situation I'm going through won't be to long. I know things will work out and it is all part of the big picture of life. I'll just say I am really going to miss you guys. Thanx again for all the kind words and the strength you all are giving me.

As bad as I hate to have to say this to you all. Being I belong to a few other boards and groups, this is the only one I'll be posting this in b/c you all are like family to me. Anyways, this makes me sad, but I'm going through some personal and physical issues right now and will no longer be getting online. I'm hoping things will get better and I can get back soon. If not, I will never forget you all. A very special heartfelt goodbye goes to you Travis, and the other mods on here for making a site that welcomed me into it and for all the help in making me a better scroller. I will try to stop in from time to time when able. I have a couple of requests. The first, please keep me in your prayers. The second, when your at your saws, do me a favor and sling some dust for me. To all of you family, thank you and remember "Keep Scrolling Along".

This website offers free to download software daily. It is available the day it is posted so you'll want to make sure you check it daily. I've downloaded a few programs from them to get ideas of programs I wanted before I went and bought one and sometimes kept the ones I downloaded. This was posted on another board and after seeing it and being that I also use this site some thought others might like it. http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/

Glad to hear you like the program, I'm begining to like it myself more and more. You did a great job on the pattern you made.
-
Sorry about that Travis, I should've knew that, my bad. Glad you got to see it though so you could give a little comment on it as it was the first one I made with that program and also that you will be possiblly doing a tutor on the program. I will try and maybe do another picture and post it and make sure it's a picture I can post here. Again, sorry about that.
-
Okay, I played with this program and actually took a picture and made a pattern with it. The pattern I'll post in the new pattern. The picture using this program actually with the filters and effects it has made making this easy to make. It works a lot like gimp just easier and with the previews of each thing you do showing before you make it final allowed you to see what each thing you do or change you make looks like before you make it a final. Also, I like the idea that it seems to work with a step count so you can do one click back to a step you did from the last to the first step. The way I made the pattern was to change the picture into a ink drawing using one of the filter options and just played with it after turning the picture into B&W. On a scale from 0 to 10, being 10 as the highest, I would rate this program as a 6 maybe even 7, as I'm still playing with it. I would suggest this freebie software. I'm hoping someone else (HINT Travis ) will take a look at this software and give their opinion on it. The pattern I made with this program is of course a quickly done pattern, I only spent like 30 min. making it, it's of Dale Earnhardtt Sr. Out of this time I spent most of it was learning the program. I think the pattern turned out great. You can find it in the "New Patterns".
