  4. Hi Roly...hope all is good in your neck of the woods ...yes now we know the light at the end of the tunnel is not an oncoming train...lol...got a lot to do before we can play with the new toy's though...got to find a home for them...they need a fair bit of room so some re planning is in order...then we have to get a decent set of chisels and other bit's & bobs to get started. The chap we bought the Lathes from gave me a carrier bag full of pen making blanks, wood & acrylic as well as some of the metal fittings...we know nothing about making pens so that will be a steep learning curve in the distant future...but first a lot of practice making wooden *things* that may bear no resemblance to their intended end result...but that will be the fun bit 1st up will be a good book on woodturning and a lot of Youtube videos and we will see where we go from there. Yorkie is toying with the idea of making a revolving workbench to mount the record lathe on so it can be swivelled underneath when not in use giving him a clear worktop for other things...been trying to find some ideas and design plans...as usual all in America...they have so much more to chose from that here in the UK the lucky devils Take care & all the best Lorn
  5. It's been quite awhile since I last logged on...I see I have a lot to catch up on too...*cleans reading glasses in anticipation* Mr Yorkie has been battling with health issues...long story but after 2 years he is slowly making progress...Scrolling & Pyrography have had to take a back seat and we are just getting back to it now. It did give us time to browse eBay though and we picked up what we think/hope is a bargain today, a Record DML24X lathe with extended bars made from Aircraft grade aluminium, taking it to almost 4 feet in overall length and a Windsor carba-tec mini lathe. Mr Y did woodturning as a youngster on an old Multi tool Coronet Lathe...I have never tried it but really want to give it a try...so after keeping an eye on what was for sale we chanced upon this pair...belonged to an elderly gent who has had to give up due to arthritis in his hands...apparently he made pens with the carba-tec and converted the record one to a tool sharpener then bought himself an all singing all dancing axminster for pen making...then had to give it up...poor fella...the axminster lathe was a beauty but far too expensive for us...start small and see how we go methinks. Anyway if the upload works here's some pics of our *bargains*...now we just need some woodcarving chisels...probably a book on the subject and a lot of YouTube Videos...and to figure out what other accessories we may need...oh and a lot of practice Hope all is good with everyone Lorn
  6. Hey Bob...good to see you...hope all is good in your world...Lorn
  7. Money...what money?...Don't you be spreading such scurrilous rumours Roly...I'm a Scot...It's my duty to uphold the reputation of meanness and penny pinching attributed to the Scots...and I married a Yorkshire man who has extremely deep pockets too...Scrooge was a pushover by comparison...lol Hope all is well and good in your neck of the woods Roly...good to see you Lorn x
  8. Thank's Russell...I did try but couldn't quite get it to look like yours...I see why now...much appreciated though...it's ideal...thank's for taking the time to help. Lorn x
  9. We have been asked to design something for a Charity Bike Ride across Canada...the lady rider loves this picture and would like it incorporated in the final design. You cut the black with this bike pattern and attach to a black backing board. Is it possible to "reverse" this so that the bike can be cut as a "stand alone" pattern and painted black. Am I making any sense?. I have tried to reverse it in Gimp but no good so far...maybe this pattern cannot be changed, if that is the case does anyone have a similar pattern that we could use instead?. Your help/advice would be invaluable and very much appreciated. Thank you Lorn
  10. Hi Frank...hope your shoulder settles down soon...try "arnica" a homeopathic tablet, you should get them in Boots or Holland & Barret type shops...it helps reduce the bruising inside as well as out...is actually used by the Medical Bods as a post op aid to reducing swelling and bruising...no known side effects as it is a herbal type of tablet...anyway it might help if you feel like giving it a go. Yes the back was very painful but it is the numb foot and spasms in leg and foot that are the biggest problem for Yorkie...it's been 18 months now and still no help from medics...just more tablets...acupuncture worked very well but costs an arm and a leg...not available on NHS here so Yorkie had to stop going for it...side effects from tablets make him forgetful and dopey and spasms prevent him from driving or riding bike safely...at a bit of a dead end now. Am liking the sound of Doris though...bet she is a lovely old lady...take it easy with the shoulder and you will soon be firing her up and terrorising the neighbourhood again (apparently that's what all we bikers do...thugs and ruffians that we are
  11. Brilliant ideas...many thank's rjR...appreciated as are your encouraging comments...personally I think I have a long way to go and a lot of practice to do before I come close to the work many of you guy's produce...BUT...I enjoy the trying and love a challenge...I married Yorkie after all...LOL
  12. Thank you Kevin...your comments are appreciated...it's a joint effort though...me with the scroll saw and my other half "Yorkie" who is the artist and Pyrographer...we had a business moving Trikes but new EU Laws in 2011 moved us from being classed as a man with a van towing a trailer to being in the same category as an Artic (Semi-Trailer I think you call them) with the same fees as they have to pay too...£5000.00 + per year...killed our business stone dead so we are trying to make a living from our wood crafting...tis slow progress but we love what we do so will keep at it...biggest problem we have here in UK is finding decent wood supplies...I'm trying acrylic as an alternative at the moment...it takes a little getting used to but I like the way it cut's...I think I will definitely do more...thank you once again for your kind words Hi Frank...thank's for the tip...that is a brilliant idea...will definitely give it a try...need to buy some new hole cutters too though...these have seen a lot of use and are showing their age I think Yes and No to the bike question ...My OH "Yorkie" has the bike...I ride pillion (and love it!)...Yam 600 Diversion...had a 2008 Suzuki Intruder C800 which we had Triked in 2010 for me to use (can ride Trike on full car licence) but what with the Trike moving business having to shut down and a house move finances were tight and we had to sell her...neither of us had any use out of her and it broke our hearts to have to sell but needs must as they say...we managed to keep the little Yam so that is our run around when we can get out and about...Yorkie slipped a disk so driving and bike riding are not an option right now What's your ride mate?. Thank's for the tip and the kind comments Steve...appreciated.
  13. Having trouble uploading so here is a link to our Facebook Page with pictures of the Prototype Trike in our Photo Albums. https://www.facebook.com/chris.burningambition/photos_stream
  14. ps...latest one is Oak...tried a hole cutter on the Oak for the wheels but it is really hard stuff and starts to burn about half way through and drill gives up...the pine was easy but had a lot of break out...hence I wondered what other options there might be out there...thank's for the suggestions...appreciated
