Looks like quite a few great patterns in these books! Thanks to all involved! I'm going to attempt a few and donate them, along with a monetary donation, to our local food bank. These people have been so busy all year long and don't get a lot of fanfare, so the donation will, hopefully, show my gratitude to their work. Thanks, Dave M
  1. Hi guys, Been a while since I've been on the forum, hope all is well. I am hoping someone can create, or steer me toward, a British flag wall clock pattern. My wife is British and has an open wall at her work I'd like to give her a clock as a gift. Thanks in advance, Dave M
  2. These look great Badukai!! Saw them on Facebook. Are the patterns available? I was a firefighter for 13 years and now a 911 dispatcher. Anything available for us in the dispatch center? Thanks.
  3. Travis, Thanks for the new updates, looks great so far. Only problem for me was logging in BUT it was because I thought my name was all in one and no spaces BUT....LOL Thanks again, looking good!!!
  4. Travis, I haven't posted in a while, am I still good or do I need to start a new post?
  5. I have a store but really haven't gotten anything in it yet. My wife and I have good intentions but no time yet! Winter is coming and we are hoping to get things in the store. The burning on a tea box I did has been sitting for a while but it has had some views. I think if we had more items posted we'd have better luck! Dave
  6. LOL Sorry didn't proof read my response!! I should have said the belt sander.
  7. Foot switch is an awesome idea, saw it on Steve Good's site. Also saw somewhere, maybe Steve's site, to get the 3 prong plug and plug in my wet/dry vac, that way it'll only come on when I'm cutting. I also took the pedal out and used it on my belt sander. Had a couple chairs and a table my parents wanted me to wood burn on, tipped my saw on its side and locked the trigger then used the pedal whenever I wanted to sand any areas, came out great and made it easy to change the sanding belts. Dave
  8. I'm also use blue painters tape or shipping tape on the wood then adhesive to pattern onto the tape. I also saw something on Steve Good's page about using a heat gun set on a low setting to loosen any adhesive on your piece. This works great, especially on those small fine pieces I've broken off in the past while removing the tape!! Sometimes learning the hard way sucks!! LOL Dave
  9. Paul, How's it going? I am looking for a pattern for a fantasy baseball league. I want to put the name of the league and year on it. Could be a wall hanging or plaque. Along those same lines I'll be looking for a fantasy football trophy, same as the baseball, name and year, hanging or plaque...Thanks in advance to all you pattern makers!! Dave
  10. It's been a while since I came here, had a computer problem, but I Googled this topic. I found that artists are using plexi to do reverse painting and they use acrylic paints. Another site, a fish site, stated this "I'd use Krylon Fusion instead of automotive paint. The stuff sticks nicely to patio furniture so it should stick" Hope this is of some help, I've never tried it BUT I have just bought my first blades to cut plexi, should be fun!! Dave
  11. Another New Englander here, Easthampton, Massachusetts.
  12. Thanks guys. I appreciate the guidance.

    Hello

Hey Kenny welcome to the group! The people here are great, very helpful in all ways possible! So along those lines, I also wood burn, as do others here. A couple great sites to check out for tutorials on burning are: Cheryl Dow http://www.cherylddow.com/Free%20Lessons%20.htm Nedra Denison http://www.nedraspyrography.com/Pyrography101.htm Sue Walters http://www.suewalters.com/PyroSchool.html Another great group like this is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PyrographicArt/ I am a member of it and they will answer a ton of questions for you there. I usually go to Nedra's site first. She is a top of the notch artist and has published many books on the topic of wood burning (pyrography). Hope this helps. Dave
  14. Okay could be a basic question I guess. How do I know when to replace my blades? When they start burning the wood? Slowing cut? What? I read some where that a guy replaces his after every hour of cutting, is that a good practice? I seem to still be cutting with my first blade without a problem. Thanks Dave
  15. Couldn't you just use some of the patterns and print them out smaller? Just a thought
  16. HA HA HA I love it!!
  17. Nice, that's what I want to do!!
  18. sounds good I'd love to see it Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look around
  19. Just wondering if anyone that owns a Craftsman has made any changes to the machine? I keep thinking of trying to make an adaptor for the blade lock, at least on top.
  20. Wow thanks for all the input, very helpful at this time. I will definitely have more questions in the future. I went to one of the bigger shows in our area today and only saw one scroller and he was selling intarsia only. I didn't see any fretwork at all, maybe that's the direction I'll head. I also need to check out some of the smaller shows in the area but this is one of the biggest and happens 4 times a year. We checked out the cost of spaces and they are 3-4 times higher than those you guys describe, for a 10x10 foot space, power and display units are extra. Again thanks for the input.
  21. This is a tea box I finished a few months ago. I am going to post it on Etsy to see if it will sell, we'll see.
  22. Christina I missed this posting before you did some great work there. Are you on any of the groups with Yahoo or any where else? I know Nedra Denison would be scolding you for using the carbon paper. She pushes graphite paper. She has a group on Yahoo that Frieke and I are members of, if you'd like I can get you a link to the group. They have amazing artists there, like ours here. Again great work here. Dave
  23. I use Basswood, pine and poplar. I like the look of the pine with the sap because it gives a bit of a glow to the burn. I am doing a lot of the boxes lately and I'm not always sure what they make them with. Some are marked but most aren't.
  24. One reason I am trying to pick up the hobby is to make additional money through craft shows. For those of you that attend them, how much of and what type of inventory should I bring? Do puzzles do better than plaques or would a mixture be better? I would think a mixture would be best but would like to hear from veterans of shows. Also any tips you could provide would be appreciated. My daughter thinks I should also try flea markets. What thoughts have you got about those? Thanks in advance for any ideas/tips. Dave
