  5. Hello my fellow Artists. I am looking for some help if possible, I have been tasked with making a flag...that's the easy part lol. on top of the union I want to put a Sheriffs Badge. It is a 7 point star. The words are what is really difficult (creating and cutting LOL, but I will have to take my time) What I am hoping to achieve here is on the top I want it to say SHERIFF. Then I will have two stars one on either side then the bottom half Im hoping can say SAN LUIS OBISPO CO. Can anyone help me with this? Thank You so much. The attached photo will work if you can change the words. Thank You again. David. I don't need anything where the seal is that whole center can be cut out, Im thinking I will put his badge # in there. the rope around the seal can just be solid line as well. Thank You
  6. Here are a couple of portraits that I did. One is for my wifes cousin who lost her father recently and wanted something that had to do with the Marines and her Dad so she could put his ashes next to it. The other is for a very good friend of mine who wanted something for her Dad....the guy that has everything.

  10. Hi there gang, I have tried to create patterns out of these but failed miserably LOL. My wifes cousin lost her father recently and she asked me if I could do a portrait for her so she can set his ashes next to it. I am wondering if you could give it a shot for me. These are the pics that were provided. Thank You so much, David

  12. Thank you Don. I will play some more when I get back home I truly appreciate your help
  13. Don, yes I did, but I will try again mabey missed or something. I will do it exactly how you said. Thanks, I will let you know. Ok, first off I don't think that I did path then object to path. so I did this time and followed your advice and again the squares never showed up, but what is really weird and I wondered about this before is the line is David and Sheree well the and disappeared. It did that before but I thought mabey I didn't put it in there or something.
  14. Hello there my friends, I think that I am using a different version of Inkscape than what Travis did when he created the tutorial for intersecting word art. I am able to keep up until I get to the kerning stage....after you get the letters where you want them you select and then go to object and ungroup. Here is where I hit my first snag. When watching the tutorial there is a square around each letter....on mine there is not, nothing happened. I tried union nothing. I am able to move the line, so I figure I will keep going. I can go as far as when I need to duplicate the family names, I duplicate pull down the orig. exposing the copy. I select the copy go to path, and select dynamic offset, then you grab the small diamond shaped object to widen the text......stop, there is no diamond. I can go no further. This same type of thing happened when I was going thru the portrait tutorial the simple fix was losing my newer version of Gimp and installing the older version. I suspect that might be the case here. I am using inkscape 0.923. What are your thoughts? Is there a different version I need to get? Thank You Gang.
  15. I tried Smitty, but the pic is too bright for me and Im too new. I just couldnt bring up the detail. I am sure someone with more knowledge and skill will step up to help you my friend, sorry I couldnt assist.
  16. yup, #1 rule ALWAYS SAVE. Break the rules and see what happen. Live and learn back to square one. I had hoped overnight it would recover but nope there was no coming back. Now I am saving like every ten mins lol. Thanks for listening to my rant and feeling my pain. lol
  17. I am back in the game of pattern attempts, never that good but always trying to learn. I am about 45 to being finished with a pattern and friggin gimp locks up on me, it enlarged and then froze grrrrrr. ok, vent is over for now. By the time you are reading this I am hoping that gimp calmed down lol. Have a Happy Day

  20. I watched all the videos that Travis put out on making patterns. They are well put together but I have a question. I directed it in a pm to Travis but I havent heard back perhaps he is on vacation or something. Anyways here is what I wrote to him perhaps someone can assist me here: Hello Travis. I havent made patterns in years, so I decided to get back to it using your tutorials. Right out the gate I have an issue that Im hoping you can help me solve...I have opened the file of Norman, next I went to file set up the new image backround set to white just like your video said to do. Next Im supposed to move the screen over and bring the Layer palette over, here in lies the problem. I cannot move the Layers Palette and even if I could the backround and the image are not there its one or the other. here is a pic of the window. I am using Gimp 2.10.8 if that matters. Thank You for your help. David

  22. Hello all I am looking for some assistance here. Some good friends of mine were talking about how they miss their Grandfather and I thought it would be awesome if I could present them with a portrait of him. I would only be real interested in him, altho if someone wanted to do the granddaughter Im sure she would be over the top with emotions. Thank You all so much.
